Smash Bros. Wii Blasts into Korea on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo has confirmed that it will finally be releasing Super Smash Bros. Brawl in South Korea on Wii, under the revised name of Super Smash Brothers X. Having sold 1,880,838 units as of the end of 2009 in Japan, Nintendo's all-star fighter, featuring the likes of Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Kirby and Samus Aran, as well as SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog, is all set to get its time to shine in a South Korean market that is currently starved of Wii releases when it arrives on 29th April.

The last Third Party games to launch in that territory were Capcom's Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles at the end of November, 2009, and EA's FIFA 10 on 8th December, 2009. It has been left up to Nintendo to carry the home console in South Korea, with fully localised editions of Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City and Mario Power Soccer (Mario Strikers Charged here in Europe) launched on 28th January and 18th March, respectively. Given how popular Animal Crossing: Wild World on DS was in Korea, and the country's amazing love of football, both games will no doubt be helping keep Wii sales ticking over until the eventual roll-out of Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros., Wii Fit Plus, plus other older games that have yet to launch there, such as Metroid Prime Trilogy.

It should be noted that there have been no Virtual Console releases in Korea this year so far, and the WiiWare service has still yet to be launched. However, Nintendo is keeping its 'evergreen' games alive, such as Mario Kart Wii, with the announcement of a new online tournament that takes place between 1st-10th April.

How so? Most people playing the DS and Wii aren't aware of what other games have been released around the world, so they are none-the-wiser. At least they're getting fully localised games now. Back in the GameCube days, and earlier, Nintendo's distributor would merely release Japanese games there! Now THAT would be a shit life... Smilie

Hello, I am from the People's Democratic of North Korea and wish to inform this propaganda newsite that this so-called Smash Bros. Wii was not released here and to urge you to stop spreading false headlines to promote your own agenda. Our God-Emperor was correct in telling His children that Nintendo and anything that bore its mark was the corruption of our pure and working nation and we, as a unity, wish to keep its influence away from our land.
