Super Mario 64 Emerges in Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Are you a fan of Super Mario 64? Prepare for a little dollop of love for the 1997 classic with an appearance of a level in Galaxy 2.

That's right folks, as part of the "Throwback Galaxy" you'll be able to wander around the second course in Super Mario 64, Whomp's Fortress, spruced up with a lick of paint, but retaining all the blocky stylings.

If that's not enough there's also a familiar tune, orchestrated, playing away in the background.

They should just remake Super Mario 64 on the Galaxy engine and we would all be happy hehehe.

OH MY GOD, THAT IS EFFIN' EPIC.

I can't be the only one who thought that music was absolutely atrocious...

I'm trying to avoid any news about SMG2 so I can play it with out knowing too much. But I just had to watch that video. I can't wait to play it, and that level looks good. It's great to hear the original music orchestrated too.

I wonder if they'll have any other old levels?

It was one of my least favourites, but it feels like the most iconic piece music from Super Mario 64, in my opinion.

I'd much rather hear Dire Dire Docks orchestrated.

Yes you are. Smilie You cannot grasp the true nature of SM64's manly sax.

But I can't help but agree, that would be gorgeous Smilie

I highly doubt Throwback Galaxy is all Whomp's Fortress, so yes there will be Smilie

I agree, though I do think the original version is crap also. Smilie

I hope that snow level is in it, so I can save the penguin mothers babies, get a star, then drop em off the edge of the level again. That was so much fun, maybe even the best part after the slides and the Bowser levels.

The penguins were awesome. Smilie

Yeah they made those funny sounds. Penguins in general are quite awesome, I loved the ones in Galaxy too.

I think it was also a case of testing if the game coders had programmed a reaction for the killing of her babies after the reward.

I can't remember if there was something like that, but I think she didn't care at all.

You're certainly the only one being negative here. Smilie

Mario music is win, whether orchestral or not. The Galaxy music was hawt too.

The original song is one of the worst Mario songs ever, and this is just a crappy remix with midi trumpets. Please explain the fuss....Maybe they should have found someone on ocremix to do it.

Well that's probably true. Smilie But still. Nostalgia. *_*

Are you joking me here? That's one of my favorite video game songs to date. In fact, I have a CD with a live performance of that song on it. Love those meeses to pieces!

The former top user was Keven! You'd probably give birth to yourself 1000 times over until you sprout wings to fly away into the fading sun, that or you'd just turn into a lesbian. Who knows @_@ - L, 12/06/09

Although it's nice to play this for nostalgia reasons, I think the SMG levels are all so much better than the N64 ones.
Not to mention that there were only... perhaps 15 levels in 64?
