Super Mario 64 Emerges in Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Are you a fan of Super Mario 64? Prepare for a little dollop of love for the 1997 classic with an appearance of a level in Galaxy 2.

That's right folks, as part of the "Throwback Galaxy" you'll be able to wander around the second course in Super Mario 64, Whomp's Fortress, spruced up with a lick of paint, but retaining all the blocky stylings.

If that's not enough there's also a familiar tune, orchestrated, playing away in the background.

Although it's nice to play this for nostalgia reasons, I think the SMG levels are all so much better than the N64 ones.
Not to mention that there were only... perhaps 15 levels in 64?

They're very different though. Mario 64 was an explorathon, and SMG is just a linear platform game, so while they're both amazing, they're amazing for completely different reasons.

The original song is one of the worst Mario songs ever, and this is just a crappy remix with midi trumpets. Please explain the fuss....Maybe they should have found someone on ocremix to do it.

How can you tell it's midi? sounds real to me.

Sounds real to me to, and I don't think this is the worst Mario song ever.. it's actually one of the main ones I remember from SM64. I used to hum it when I got bored. Smilie

Well if they are real they don't sound very good. It literally just sounds like the original with different sound samples. I'd hardly even call it a remix.

Also I take back what I said about it being the worst Mario song. I...really like it....dunno what the hell was wrong with me yesterday >_>

You were just being a little tsundere Graeme-chan~ ¦3c

It sounds mostly real to me, but then I heard the drums, which are unmistakably MIDI. I think the MIDI is just high quality... it was definitely harder to tell than it was with TP.

This reminds me of a secondary school music lesson. "Identify the instruments being played in this piece of music..." I didn't really like music, one of the worst subjects next to RE, History and Geography.

Back on topic, I really couldn't care less whether it's MIDI or not. Sounds good to me.

A bit of the old "say it's crap just to get the fans angry" eh?
