Rock Band 3 to Feature Keytar? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The next iteration of the Rock Band series will feature keyboards. According to reports the new instrument will take the form of a keytar.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that the next game would feature some form of keys, and according to Arstechnica, developer Harmonix will introduce the new accessory to look like the keytar, a popular option for those wanting to perform keyboards, especially in the '80s.

The report also states that peripheral specialist Mad Catz is being brought onboard the Rock Band 3 ship to create all the hardware for the new game and also offer up various bundles to different stores, for example a guitar bundle, drum bundle or for those wanting the complete setup, everything in a neat little package. It might be likely that Mad Catz may go a step further and create a new guitar that mimics the actual instrument a little closer.

As well as new peripherals, there's said to be a "pro" mode that will require players to offer up a better technique, possibly to let those who can actually play honour their skills in a game.

That said the report has yet to be confirmed by EA or Harmonix. More details are expected at E3 next month.

So instead of strumming, you'd press a second set of colored keys?

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

Lmao. I don't bother with any of these GH/RB type games. If I wanted to play the guitar/drums, I'd just learn how to play them irl. Smilie

OMG! We're like long lost twin brothas or sumthing. Smilie

The keytar looks abolutely rediculous though. You can't make someone playing a keyboard look cool, even if you glue a guitar on it.

Keyboards are cool, I used to like playing the keyboard.. I guess I'm not cool then. Smilie Smilie

I play guitar and drums, and sometimes a bit of keyboard. But watch a concert with three people performing those instruments. The one playing the keyboard, no.

This is why keyboards are cool. Smilie

Hey now, Henrik Klingenberg and Jordan Rudess use keytars, and they are just as cool as any guitarists.

I'd prefer a piano key necktie
