E310 | New Nintendo DS Kingdom Hearts

Square Enix has confirmed a new Kingdom Hearts game for the Nintendo DS. Following on from the speculation earlier this week, Square Enix has today confirmed that h.a.n.d., the team behind Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days will be converting the mobile phone Action RPG project Kingdom Hearts Re:coded to the Nintendo DS for release over in North America.

Below are the first details of the title:

Sora’s journey in KINGDOM HEARTS II has drawn to a close, and now a new tale is set to begin. Jiminy Cricket is looking over the journal he used to document his first adventure with Sora when he discovers a mysterious message. He didn’t write it - so how on earth did it get there? King Mickey is determined to find out, so he and his friends decide to digitize the journal and delve into its deepest secrets. Inside this “datascape” dwells a second Sora who is about to embark on a grand adventure of his very own.

In addition to this, the release date for Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light on DS was given as 5th October, 2010 in the US:

FINAL FANTASY: THE 4 HEROES OF LIGHT is a beautifully rendered original adventure brought to you by the acclaimed creators of FINAL FANTASY III and FINAL FANTASY IV on Nintendo DS. Master all-new combat and game systems and immerse yourself in a charming storybook setting as you take on the roles of Brandt, Jusqua, Yunita and Aire. Though at first they don’t always see eye to eye, these four Heroes of Light will embark on a journey full of joyous meetings and sad partings that will build bonds of trust and affection so strong that, in the end, they may even save the world…

Finally, two internally-developed WiiWare download titles were confirmed:

The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Chaotic Conflicts (WiiWare, Action Puzzle, 21st June). Turn the tide of frantic battles by using the Wii Remote to throw animated paper bears into the pages of an unusual picture book. The battle-oriented Chaotic Conflicts will be releasing simultaneously with Puzzling Pages, a parallel game with its own unique tale and stages. Complete both games to uncover an even deeper mystery...

The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Puzzling Pages (WiiWare, Action Puzzle, 21st June). A crumbling mansion is home to a most peculiar picture book. Solve innovative puzzles by using the Wii Remote to throw animated paper bears into the picture book's unusual pages. Delve into the unfolding drama of Pina, the mysterious young girl residing in the mansion.

What are your thoughts on the revelations above?

Gah, still haven't bought the GBA, DS or PSP Kingdom Hearts games. Smilie I'll probably track them down and blast through them all sometime before KH3 is announced and released. Smilie Glad they're making more for DS, but would still rather hear about KH3...

The PSP KH game's not out yet, so dun w'ry. 358/2 Days isn't that great because the gameplay is tedious/repetitive and there's practically zero plot until right at the end.

Here's hoping coded will be better, even if it sounds a bit... different.
Glad this is finally coming west, and I'm very surprised that it's DS exclusive. I wonder if the visuals will be improved or downgraded? It looked pretty good for a mobile game.

Also the title (New Nintendo DS Kingdom Hearts) is incredibly misleading, KH coded was announced almost 2 years ago D:

But that would be like calling "Final Fantasy IV" a New DS Final Fantasy game just 'cause it's a remake D:

EDIT: Ah well, I'm just nitpicking anyway Dx

I'm surprised so many people dislike KH: 358/2 Days. I only played about an hour of it, but it seemed like a solid enough adventure...Is it getting put down because it doesn't compare well to other KH games or something?

    Glad you realised that Smilie

Comparison I guess. It just seems like a completely unnecessary edition to the series, one that arguably already has too many games.

What was a great opportunity for some new plot elements and plothole/gap filling ended up being a whole game of filler. Not even CoM was anywhere near that bad plot wise.

The fact that you had little to look forward to in the way of plot wasn't helped by the fact the game's structure was so tedious and repetitive compared to other KHs where you could fully explore, and the events flowed more with the plot rather than random missions to take up your time in between cutscenes.

It was still a great game, it was just massively disappointing.

Sounds to me like you'd be perfect for doing a review Smilie (since C3 doesn't have one!)
