E310 | Latest Zelda Wii Rumours Surface

Just hours before Nintendo's E3 2010 conference, a bunch of unconfirmed rumours on the next Zelda game have trickled onto the internet.

Webside Zelda Informer earlier posted the details, claiming their source as "99.9% valid". Despite the likelihood of bearing some truth, we'll post these as unconfirmed rumours for now:

    • Zelda Wii's official title is "The Legend of Zelda" without a subtitle.
    • The game's setting is said to take place several hundred years before the events of Ocarina of Time, revealing how the Master sword came to be.
    • The girl in the Zelda artwork previewed at last year's E3 is called "Zordiana", and as expected she plays an important role.
    • Seamless dungeons - smooth graduation. There will be dungeons with no bosses, and bosses with no dungeons. The first "dungeon", an ice level, is said to be playable at E3.
    • The hookshot is also used, but unlike past zeldas it won't pull a player immediately towards a selected target. Players can swimg with the hookshot (like the grappling hook from Wind Waker).
    • The control for bow and arrow is said to be similar to the one used in Wii Sports Resort.
    • There are two levels of difficulty put in by Aonuma. Miyamoto didn't want this option included, however there will be a normal mode for regular players, and a "Hero" mode with harder enemies and no "Super Guide" feature.
    • Sometimes you have to "draw" a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.

If true or not we'll find out at Nintendo's E3 2010 Conference on Tuesday.

Why is miyamoto so against difficulty settings. If he listened to the people who buy these games a lot of them are saying the monsters are too easy. I just dont see what there is to be against.
Especially since he wants new gamers to buy into it.

Im not keen on the wii resort archery being used in the game. That changes the dynamic significantly making it slower. I also hate the nun chuk in terms of motion.

"players can swing the hookshot" I read that this is done without motion plus which is a big fail if true unless its old school analogue control (which I have nothing against)

These sound incredibly fake, to me. The 2Chan rumours were at least realistic, but some of these go way out there:

    - Why would they choose not to have a title? When has Nintendo ever not gone with a new title for a main series game? Even when they remake a game, they give it a new title (New! Super Mario, Metroid Zero Mission, The two Fire Emblem games remade in Japan, Pokemon FR, LG, HG, SS, etc.) That's just not something Nintendo does. A lot of third-party companies do it (Bionic Commando, Sonic the Hedgehog etc.) which is what makes the guess safe, but Nintendo has never really done it. Even when they remake games from other systems, they give it a new name (MGS: Twin Snakes, Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop.) The closest thing they've ever done to this, I think, would be keeping the title of A Link to The Past, but even then it's a stretch because that was a direct port with minor changes, and even then it came with another game and thus had the title "A Link to the Past / Four Swords."

    - Pretty vague, but also in-line with most of the other rumours going around.

    - "Zordiana" sounds like a character someone would write into a Zelda fanfiction. At best, it sounds like it'd be the name of a Zora. And anybody could guess she'd be important. She's the only new thing revealed thus far.

    - Also just taken from the other rumours going around. The ice dungeon part is interesting. The very few ice dungeons in the series so far have generally been later in the game. If I had to make a safe guess, I'd go with a forest dungeon, mostly because that's how they always do it. But Nintendo has been saying that this game will be different. So I guess if E3 comes by and there's no ice dungeon, there'll be no reason to regard any of these as true.

    - Sounds plausible enough.

    - Not sure what that would entail, but it sounds pretty basic. If the bow and arrow, and not the crossbow, is in the game, I imagine it'd function in the obvious way.

    - Nintendo hasn't ever really gone with different difficulty modes. And if Miyamoto said no, it wouldn't be in the game. This is probably the biggest reason why I think these are false. It's one thing for these rumours to come from someone who had an advance copy of the e3 demo or something similar, but to know intimate details from the Japanese development studio going that high up the ladder? That just seems completely unrealistic.
As interesting as it would be to see Aonuma have more control, this just doesn't seem that likely. What Miyamoto says pretty much goes, and that's for almost all Nintendo games. I don't think Zelda would be an exception.

    - I can see the drawing thing, but with the sword? That sounds unrealistic. It's a sword, not a pencil. Have you ever tried to draw in the dirt with a tree branch you can barely lift with one hand? Chances are you'd end up drawing some sweet looking blobs. Swords are for swinging, not drawing.

I don't know. These just sound too farfetched, to me.

The only points of interest here are the seemless dungeons (awesome!) and the difficulty settings (a nice bonus). Everything else has been done in Zelda before and is therefore irrelevant.

I hope this one is a bit different from typical Zelda games.
YOU HAVE JUST LOST THE GAME. Sorry. Smilie

New! super Zelda bros. , featuring tingle as the co-op character in unique 2d gameplay and art style inspired by the legendary Picasso! Waggle the wii remote to move forwards, than waggle to move backwards! No game guide can ever be written for this huge new zelda!

    Plausability +1.

If the rumours do fly true, I have to ask the same question aswell - why is Miyamoto so against difficulty settings?

This is something myself and tons of other Zelda players have been crying out for for years, as each Zelda game seems to be getting easier and easier. I would most definitely welcome a harder mode for veterans.

But yeah, I guess you can't take these rumours too seriously. We'll find out for sure what the real deal is in a day. Can't wait Smilie

Can I just say that Nintendo did release a Zelda game with 2 difficulties which was designed by Aonuma. It was this title called Legend of Zelda Oracana of Time: Master Quest.

So I think it makes perfect sense especially for the hardcore audience.

The game simply titled 'The Legend of Zelda'? That sounds pretty legit. I'm all for this.
