E310 Media | Nintendo Announces Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Unveiled right at the beginning of Nintendo's E3 conference, which is still ongoing, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, is presented as a mix between The Wind Waker's lush Cel-shaded style, and Twilight Princess's nitty gritty realism, retaining the Adult portrayal of the latter.

The game will indeed make full use of the MotionPlus peripheral, and will use it to great effect with Link's sword, and arsenal of items. An on-stage demonstration from Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself showcased the felxibility and dexterity of the control, despite reported interference from wireless signals and lighting in the audience.

The game is reported to be released next year, instead of the rumoured date by the end of this year, and will be playable on the E3 showfloor.

If it has the same structure as Wind Waker, Twilight and OOT then count me out. As innovative as those puzzles can get I'm done with dungeons, tri-force hunt, battle.

The controls aren't what needed innovating, the structure is what dated Twilight.

Aonuma has already said they're going to make the structure a bit more unpredictable, skewing the line between what makes overworld and dungeons, etc.

Looks brilliant to me.

Its Zelda + WiiSportsResort controlls for all the items.

I mean, bowling bombs! Thats like, uber-cool.
A lot of fresh puzzle potential.

Amazing, Zelda has taken wii resort and shown how you make a deep gaming experience. Love the art style. Lighter version of twilight.

Really not keen on the nun chuck for motion. Have had nothing but bad times with this.

looks great,

glad the game is being worked on. another year and they have this thing being a great game!

Mario, Mega Man and Rayman FTW!!!

I'm impressed by the new Zelda. Mostly, I just want to whip things. Smilie

"Do a Barrel Roll!"

Visually not too bad, but still seems OOT/TP/WW era from a gameplay side from what we've seen. The Miyamoto demo at the E3 stage was ever so slightly fail.

From the roundtable with Miyamoto, SPOILER ALERT:

Link lives in a floating city. His people discover a land below inhabited by evil forces. Link travels between the two using the Skyward Sword, aka that girl from the artwork last year.

The HUD everyone complained about was just for E3, the remotes won't be constantly on the screen.

Ocarina remake officially announced.

Oh, and how could I forget? It will feature live orchestration Smilie

I defintely love the art style!!! I was a big fan Windwaker and the LoZ games on the DS.

I like how it matured a bit in art as did Link did too! (in this art direction)

Love the art style. Definitely looks like a watercolor painting come to life!

You know, I always am most anxious about the artstyle of a new Zelda-game. This one is great!
TP had a awesome realistic artstyle, it was great, too, but you could see the limited amount of polygons Cube (It's a Gamecube game, as you all know) yould handle and didn't have the horsepower to cover that up with grass, as the 'Nextgen' do.
Windwaker, on the other hand, is ageless in my opinion. And now, with this celshaded slash realistic look they achieved to maintain the adult and realistic look of TP (and OoT) and made it more modern and timeless. That's absolutely great! I love it!

And the structure of puzzles and dungeons seem to be opened up. I only saw the trailer, but I think the put a lot of puzzles only to be found in dungeons in the overworld (check the door with the eye Link confuses). They also took a Mario-approach. Check the trailer, they put a lot of puzzles and platforming from the Mario-Galaxy-games into it. And you know what? I think it's great and I want to play it right away!
I was curious and 'feared' somewhat for a TP artstyle and gameplay. And I was blown away.
Don't get me wrong, I could go on with the dungeons and triforce-collecting forever, but this one's so much more awesome and fresh. I hope it won't continue to hollow the fun as it did for a lot of people like HazukiSan, who grew tired of the same old dance. And judging from the trailer, it might succeed!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
