Chris Redfield to Voice Sonic the Hedgehog

Everybody's favourite hedgehog Sonic will now be voiced by a new chap who previously took the role of Resident Evil's Chris Redfield.
According to Sega's Sonic blog, three of the main actors for the 3D sonic games will be replaced by new folk - including Sonic, Tails, with Eggman remaining.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Roger Craig Smith
Roger has previously voiced Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5, the beastly Siegfried Schtauffen from Soul Calibur IV and various characters in animes Naruto and Bleach. He's also been heard in recent SEGA games Valkyria Chronicles and the gruesome Platinum Games's Wii project, Madword.
Tails "Miles" Prower - Kate Higgins
The two-tailed flying fox, Sonic's partner, will now be voiced by Kate Higgins. She's also starred in Valkyria Chronicles and Madworld, whilst tackling one of the lead Naruto characters, Sakura.
DR. EGGMAN - Mike Pollock
Pollock will remain in the egg pod, blurting out various slogans whilst trying to thwart Sonic and chums since 2005.

While Mike Pollock is brilliant, the rest of the Sonic cast are gonna be replaced by more experienced and passionate VAs, finally.
It's a shame because some of the 4Kids VAs were really growing on me, but this is still pretty cool. Sonic's VA has great voice range.

I kinda doubt it. RE is a B-Movie parody, and the fact that his VA sounds so cheesy when voicing Chris as opposed to his other roles is a testament to how great a VA he is really.
It means he knows and can fit into the role, so hopefully he'll get the hang of Sonic much quicker than Sonic's previous VAs, which all have their fair share of being extremely annoying.

All he needs is a surfer dude's voice and he's set. That's what Sonic sounds like to me. He sounds like a typical American "dude" who spends way too much time on the beach.
I can't imagine a gruff Sonic or posh English Sonic. That, however, would be fun!

I hated Tails voice but I thought Sonic's voice suited him. The main problem in Sonic is the script. Give them silly one-liners and they'll sound silly no matter who's voicing them.

I dunno. If you have a really awesome voice actor you can make lines sound amazing that would otherwise sound like shit.
Snake's probably not the best example, but he's a decent one. He has a lot of cheesy lines (not as much as Sonic mind) but David Hayter just makes him sound kickass with every line.

Maybe now Sonic will sound his age instead of talking like a 10 year old like in the cartoons. This could be the turning point for Sonic. Lets just hope he doesn't dissapoint.
