The various faces behind the upcoming Team Ninja and Nintendo collaboration recently discussed the forthcoming Metroid project.
The group talk through various elements, including cut-scene production, story development, Zero Suit Samus and how hard it has been trying to convey more emotion and human depth into the bounty hunter's character. We also look at some of the benefits and restrictions of using the Wii Remote in a 3D space.
The team also tackle "response" - where the older 2D Metroid games were reliable in battle and didn't have lag that you might get with smoother, modern animation. For example Samus raises her gun each time to shoot and having fluid arm animation would cause a slight lag. To compromise, laser beams are fired just as the arm starts to rise - trying to provide smooth 3D animation with the response and feeling of classic 2D.
