Doctor Who Coming to Wii and DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Following previous speculation, BBC's best time traveller is heading to Nintendo Wii and DS in two new action/adventure games.

According to MCV, the Eleventh Doctor will feature in more video games - this time for both Nintendo's consoles. It's been rumoured for some time but are now confirmed by Koch Media, and in development by the folks at Asylum Entertainment. Like the games for PC/Mac, both will feature Matt Smith as the current Doctor alongside companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillen).

Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth will warp on to the DS, whilst Doctor Who: Return to Earth will do the rounds on Wii (we're hoping for some Wii-remote-sonic-screwdriver-loving).

I've been meaning to play the game(s) they made for PC, they sound terrible. This automatically makes it fantastic, of course.

The PC games at least should have a decent story, as its written by the same writers. (Moffet is a bloody genius if you ask me. He does the best who episodes, but also wrote Jekyll and Coupling)

Look forward to seeing how these turn out.
Dr Who really fits the adventure genre well imho.

Have you played the free PC ones, there not great, ok for freebies but your gonna have to pay for these ones :/
Also it's coming from a developer that specializes in peppi the pig and scooby doo games...not exactly a steller pedigree.

I don't think Sumo Digital has done a bad job on the current Doctor Who adventures.

Which have been very well received so far and have been in development for over a year.

The BBC owns the material we are able to assign it to another partner to develop on another platform if we choose. Much like when EA or Sega get smaller parties to focus on certain platforms.

For those interested the new Doctor Who Adventure goes live next month with the final game coming out on Christmas Day!

The BBC recently said the next adventure game 'TARDIS' is out an August 27th. Has it been delayed? And will this or the last episode be set on an alien world? It's annoying being stuck to Earth.

!

Reviews I read all seemed to agree they lacked polish and scored in around 4 or 6 out of 10. Which is fine I suppose for a free game.

If sumo digital a fairly competent developer can't make a decent DrWho game then it just strikes me as the BBC not really caring that much about it, it's just advertising merchandise at the end of the day.

Some third rate developer making a Wii and DS version doesn't fill me with confidence.

Most Doctor Who fans find The Adventure Games to be very enjoyable, good plots and nice fan service for DW fans.

It lacks polish so it can run on low end computers, it's free and it's downloadable.

Yep spot on, thats what I'm getting at. The episodes are good for what they are aimed at children and fans of the show for a little bit extra.
There never going to be amazing but they are decent enough.

The problem with the Wii game is there gonna charge us £30 :/ are you really going to shell out for (and lets not kid ourselves here)a fairly crappy game?

Well that's what I'm worried about with these. The developers are pretty smalltime aswell, whereas Sumo are generally awesome.

No, they cared. Thats why they had the good writers on it.
What they didn't have was much budget.

Sum didn't have the budge for the Adventure Games. Loads of people would have claimed BBC was wasting fee payers money if they spent too much making these games, and they are low spec fr lower end PCs and Macs. I'm guessing the budget was far lower than that provided for other PC games. They did their best, and since you don't pay theres not really a lot to complain about

I did enjoy the episodes so far, extended what was a pretty awesome series throughout the rest of the year.

Moffett is a fucking awesome writer, he did a script for Tintin with SPielberg, but decided to come back an do Doctor Who. He also wrote the pretty damn good Sherlock series as well.

And as long as these are not just fucking top trumps, then its immediately better than the previous console game

No sorry the game does come out tomorrow, launches at lunchtime.

However this is actually the worst one so far, but on a positive plenty of effort is going into the Christmas Special download game

Probably like a Flash game with Wii remote controls and stylus tap tap tacked on, no?

And Jekyll which was utterly superb.
And Coupling, which was frequently hilarious with some very inventive scripts.

True.
The bar for who games is very low.
