    Super Mario Collection Wii Confirmed

Update: Recent retailer listings in Japan have confirmed a release for Super Mario Collection on the Wii this October.

Amazon and other retailers have since removed the game, however artwork was captured by a sleuthy Japanese blog.

As previously reported it'll be available from October 21st, and for 2,500 Yen will include the game, Mario booklet and soundtrack.

    Original Story:

Recently reports and an addition to Nintendo of Japan's release calendar suggest that Nintendo are planning an anniversary edition of Super Mario All-Stars.

With the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros (in Japan) coming up, unconfirmed details from a Nintendo retailer conference in Japan and official website listing for "Super Mario Collection Special Pack" suggest that Super Mario All-Stars will be making a special edition return to the living-room screen. Whether it's a straight port or updated release is unknown.

The leak also suggests that for 2,500 yen ($30) fans will also receive a special Super Mario Bros book and soundtrack showcasing development and music from the entire series.

Whilst Mario was combating Donkey Kong and leaping through pipes with his likeminded brother before 1985, that year was a special one for Nintendo - the Japanese release of Super Mario Bros. on the NES.

The pack is listed to be available at retail from October 21st.

Thanks to C3 reader Squidboy for the tip.

    @JB

    Correction: October 21st.

I suspect it will launch in the West early next year - March in NA and May in the EU, coinciding with the original release dates.

This is awesome, but I'd much rather have the classic SNES Super Mario All-Stars released on VC (and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for that matter). I'm loving the extra goodies, though. I can't see them passing on the Western territories.

I've said it many times before, a new upgraded Super Mario compilation is waaaay over due (as is the VC release of the original SNES Super Mario All-Stars, but I digress). After all these years, I've been going mad waiting for Ninty to do another one. Naturally it needs to have the original classic Mario games that were included in the original All-Stars classic, but they need to bump up the roster and upgrade the visuals and audio to make the most out of Wii.

Personally, I would LOVE it if they added the original Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Land 1 & 2, Yoshi's Story, Wario Land 1-4 & World (hey, it's WARIO Smilie ), and yes, Super Mario 64.

It would also be great if they included revamped versions of Mario Clash and Virtual Boy Wario Land (which would obviously need a name change). Although, remakes of those would be better suited for the 3DS.

A fully orchestrated soundtrack is a must. However, I'm not sure if I would prefer the graphics to be upgraded to beautiful 3D graphics (like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or the 2D sections of Mario Galaxy 2) or the gorgeous and fluid anime style (like in Wario Land: The Shake Dimension). Obviously, Mario 64 would be best suited for 3D GFX while Yoshi's Island would be best suited for anime GFX.

They only other thing that would complete the package would be to include all the additional features, levels, and goodies that have been included in their respective re-releases. Such as in the Super Mario Advance series and Super Mario 64 DS. Naturally, some content would have to be re-worked a bit. Maybe even some new stuff! We could finally play the rest of those Super Mario Bros. 3: SMA4 e-Reader levels! Dammit, I'm drooling all over my keyboard.

*sigh*...It'd be great if Ninty really did do all this...

All the games that feature on All-Stars are already available on the Virtual Console.

    500 SMB2
    600 SMB:LL
    500 SMB 3

There's no logic in Nintendo releasing a 800 point game which features all the above.

The 25th anniversary of Super Mario is a WW event, this collection will certainly arrive in all territories.

Nah, I see it releasing over here BEFORE the end of the year. Maybe even on Black Friday to go along with all the hardware purchases. Imagine: Wii, with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Super Mario Bros Collection, all for $200! You get over 20 games for a less than $200!

@Squidboy: What? Your talking about the original 8-bit NES/Famicom versions. All-Stars was a 16-bit upgraded compilation. It's completely different. That's one of the things that made it so great.

If they released it at the standard 800WPs for SNES titles (or even at a higher 1000WPs due to the scope of the compilation), you can't beat that. They'd make a killing.

@Glenjamin: Yeah. lol It is a bit much. The Mario fanatic in me hit fever pitch. ^_^ Still, you gotta admit it would be pretty damn sweet. I dared to dream. Smilie

Would be lovely to have a collection like this, although I'm not the biggest fan of classic Mario, definitely would appreciate it. A book and soundtrack collection tops the bill!

Hmmm, that'd be a loss in profit for them if they didn't release it worldwide. But with the idiots that are currently running Nintendo, anything is possible.

    Suh-WEET!!!

I'm a bit torn, though. If it's a straight port of the classic SNES version, I'd much rather have it for VC to help complete my collection (no pun intended), but I sincerely hope it's an upgraded compilation instead. Which, I kinda doubt it will be, considering the price and the additional goodies you get.

The thing is, we don't even know if this is going to be released in western territories, yet. Still, even if it IS a newly upgraded Mario Collection (YAY, FINALLY!!), I still want the classic SNES version on VC.

    ...I think I'm a bit obsessed.

I missed the chance to buy the GBA remake of SMB3 for $30, so I'll gladly pay that much for a remake that includes the first 2 games as well.

With the success of NSMB Wii and DS, Nintendo will almost definitely release it over here as All-Stars again or something similar.

They can market it alongside NSMB as "see where it all began" or something along those lines, blink, and see profits grow and grow!

Would be so awesome if they remade Super Mario All stars with the new style of NSMB, if Nintendo did DLC they could have easily have done that.

It should get the Monkey Island Special Edition treatment, with new, anime style graphics which can be changed back to the original style by pressing -.

I really hope that it's a revamp of Mario All-Stars. With Mario World would be a huge plus, too.

I really hope they give it a make over. Similar graphics but taking advantage of the Wii's power and it's ability to output in 480p widescreen.
