Happy Birthday Metal Sonic, Amy on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo aren't the only ones celebrating a birthday this week, with SEGA's Amy Rose and Metal Sonic sharing a slice.

Whilst being Nintendo's 121st birthday today September 23rd, it's also the anniversary of SEGA's Amy Rose and Metal Sonic who both made their gaming debut in Sonic CD. Amy as Sonic's biggest fan and love interest, and Metal Sonic to generally wreak silent havoc on the SEGA's hotdog-loving mascot. Both are 17 today.

Sonic CD is available as part of Sonic Gems Collection for the GameCube.

I was never really a big fan of Sonic CD. I always found the Past-Future travel features annoying. Metal Sonic and Old School Amy are pretty alright, though.

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

Yeah, Sonic CD was kinda weird.

Metal Sonic- overrated.
Amy- Hoping she would be dead by now...God damn that english dub. T_T

Mario, Mega Man and Rayman FTW!!!

I think this was a great Sonic game. It was one of the best 2D Sonic'd for a long time. The idea of introducing a semi love interest for Sonic was a great idea, plus the introduction of Metal I thought was a nice touch. Happy Birthday Amy and Metal.

Not a fan of CD. The level design is all over the place. It's like they got drunk and just threw as many platforms at the screen as possible. Smilie

Plus that jumping sound effect. What were they thinking. Smilie

Agreed that CD was very overrated, however it's still very enjoyable, and I actually loved both soundtracks for the game.

Amy and Metal Sonic are two of my favourite Sonic characters. Infact I'm not even sure why characters like Shadow exist when you've got Metal Sonic already...

Sonic CD was dapper, but having official 'birthdays' for ancillary characters like Metal Sonic and Amy is pathetic. It's gay enough that Sonic and Mario get 'birthdays', let's not start celebrating the birthday of every fictional character ever.

Too late man, most fictional characters in modern games and anime and sometimes cartoons have birthdays that their fans celebrate~

lulz, I'm sure it's just cosplay fags who entertain such things to the nth degree.

I don't think there's a problem with either thing and I don't know why you'd let it bother you.

True enough. Just seems mighty silly to me. Hasn't Metal Sonic only appeared in a couple Sonic games since his creation, the most notable of which being his first one (Sonic CD)? I can sort of begrudgingly-accept people doing it for Sonic, Mario, blah bla, but why celebrate 'birthdays' for characters like Metal Sonic who mostly make cameos, at best?

Nice to see the Sonic arm of SEGA ruthlessly capitalizing on absolutely any opportunity for publicity.

Metal Sonic has been in (iirc)

- CD
- Drift 2
- Sonic R
- Knuckles Chaotix
- Adventure (cameo/playable in DX version)
- SA2 (playable)
- Heroes (main antagonist)
- Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 (playable)
- All Stars Racing and Riders: Zero Gravity (playable)

He's pretty important really!

Still not enough to justify any kind of celebration, it's like nintendo celebrating waluigi, or baby mario.
Pointless.

Not to mention completely and utterly harmless fun.

Nothing wrong with marketing either.

I personally love it when developers get their fanbases more involved.
