Famitsu Wii News & Okamiden Review on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Famitsu magazine has revealed four new Wii titles and reviewed Capcom's eagerly awaited Okamiden for DS. The popular weekly Japanese publication has been relatively quiet on news for Nintendo's Wii console, with many believing support has completely dried up in the Far East due to lacklustre software sales for everything other than Nintendo's key products. However, this week four new products were revealed that could potentially carve out decent sales in the long-term:

  • Write! Move! Catch! Teacher Wii
  • Karaoke Joysound Wii SuperDX By Yourself, With Everyone All You Can Sing
  • Shape Boxing 2 Enjoy Diet on Wii
  • Billy's Boot Camp Enjoy Diet on Wii
The two out of that list to most likely reach the greatest audience are the update from Hudson to the already successful Karaoke Joysound and the sequel to sleeper hit Shape Boxing. Whether any of these will eventually get a Western release, though, is unconfirmed as of now.

In other news, Capcom's Okami sequel, Okamiden for the Nintendo DS, received a whole heap of praise from the four reviewers that tackled it in this week's magazine. It received two 9/10s and two 8/10s to make a grand total of 34/40. Any title achieving a final score of 32/40 and above gets the accolade of a 'Gold Award,' but the test will be to see how that translates into actual consumer sales when it lands in Japan on 30th September.

Awesome, but we all know what Famitsu reviews are worth in the West. I ordered a copy of Okami at HMV Japan yesterday, I hope it comes with the Sumi-e brush stylus, but I doubt it will.

I've read a bit of their review and they said that Okamiden does too much of the same Okami did. Now, I guess that's a bad thing for them because they have SO many other great japanese-style games that we'll never get to see. Therefore for us in the West, it's freakin' great to hear that it's just as awesome as Okami. With so many photo-realistic games in the West, it's really great to have games like Okami and Okamiden to play. Too bad I still suck at Japanese or otherwise I would import it ASAP.

Indeed. Okami is a breath of fresh-air in terms of both style and gameplay.

I'm pretty sure that ^^ is what I played at the Post-E3 event that Nintendo held a couple of months ago. Great game; can't wait to get my hands on the final version!

That's a good score, and like Adam said, I can't wait to play the full game having played it at the post-E3 Nintendo Event.

Really is looking awesome.

So apparently Okamiden is criticised for the exact reason I expected it to be?

That's fine I guess, it's simply amazing how Okami's gameplay can be emulated on the DS anyway, so I welcome a little sameyness.

Just make sure you go all out with Okami 3 Capcom!
