Over the Shoulder View in Street Fighter IV 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Snippets of footage from a demo version of Super Street Fighter IV reveals an interesting new "over the shoulder" viewpoint.

Eagle-eyed reader Squidboy spotted the new feature within a Japanese news report which shows a not-quite-3rd person perspective with Guile leaping about and landing a handful of air punches. We can only imagine how fabulous the "over the shoulder" view would look in 3D.

Sounds like a pretty cool feature if ya ask me.

This might work, it will be a little different to how Street fighter games are played at the moment, but I think it will be a nice touch. I just can't stop laughing at the picture where Ryu is using a Shoruken on Ken. It has to be the best battle pose I have seen in a fighting game.

The facial expressions in SFIV are bloody hilarious xD

According to Japanese site 4Gamer (who had it's reporters hands-on with the demo at the recent Nintendo conference), the controls for the new combat view are exactly the same, it's only the perspective of the viewpoint which changes. "It's like a different game" said one reporter, who'd been expecting the 3D option to merely add depth to the standard view. The 4gamer reporter didn't mind the switch in perspective, "the commands operate like normal, and the camera sticks to the character's back regardless of how harsh the movements are."

Glad to hear that the over the shoulder view works, thought it might be weird if you're pushed back too much. Would definitely like to try it out - a really neat idea for a portable fighter - and glad they kept this as (presumably) optional!

It's definitely optional, and a nice welcome addition as far as I'm concerned.

I think the 3D effect is vital for this new combat view to work - you need to be able to judge distances in SF for good tactical play.

Niiiice, I wonder if it'll still have the optional classic side view? Smilie

Well with this announced I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Capcom to port over Marvel vs. Capcom 3 & Street Figther X Tekken....COMMOOOOON CAPCOM DO NOT DISSAPOINT!!!!.....Also make a new Megaman Zero title for the 3DS would you Cap.Smilie

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

It's definitely optional, otherwise there wouldn't be screens or footage without the over-the-shoulder view.

It's a good addition to the game, now there are quite a few features to distinguish the 3DS version from the others.
