Wii Also Gets Red Colour Treatment for Mario Anniversary on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The DSi and DSi XL have been dipped in the red bucket for Mario's anniversary but the Wii seemed to have missed out - until now.

The limited edition Wii comes in a limited edition red flavour and is the first to bundle the new Wii Remote Plus controller containing MotionPlus, also in red. The Wii Remote jacket and nunchuck are too taking on Mario's colour.

From November 11th all newer Wii consoles produced in Japan will include the Wii Remote Plus as standard.

Currently the system is exclusive to Japan, but with it being Mario 'n'all it's likely to make it over to the West in some form.

I remember when they first unveiled the Wii, they had a red color controller shown. I was definitely going to pick red, but they only released the Wii in white.

This a cool colour, but I hate the fact that you have a Wii on launch day and a lot of people would be trading in their old ones just to get a new colour. Nintendo sure know how to do clever marketing. Good on them, but maybe just release all the colours on release day's Nintendo.

What game company has ever done this?

Need to sell an extra million consoles? New color with exclusive version of SMB will do the trick.

Wish they would do something to substantially change or improve the wii with each color release--maybe a revised version of the hardware or something.--i hate when they release different colors---it changes nothing to the game experience---its just a not-so-clever way to rope kids into wanting another Wii--with a different colored shell...I love Nintendo very much, but I hate them for this very reason---

That's SO true. I'd love one, if it wasn't for the fact you can't transfer MH Tri data to an SD card, I'd get rid of my white one, which I've had since launch, and get the red one Smilie
