3DS Events Hitting New York and Amsterdam on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Earlier today, Nintendo announced two conferences that will be taking place in New York City, for the Americans and also one in Amsterdam, for Europeans. The events are designed to promote Nintendo's upcoming new handheld system, the Nintendo 3DS, as well as giving the press a chance to try the handheld out and see its 3D screen in action.

Both events take place on the same day, on January 19th 2011 and will be only open to the press. European members might want to write down the time of the event in their diaries, with it starting at 3:00pm CET or 2:00pm GMT (UK time). It’s expected that news of the systems release date, along with its launch line-up and also pricing will be revealed on the day. The same is also expected from the event held in New York, with the American launch plans predicted to be revealed.

Japan will also be holding its own event for the system and the official Japanese release date has been set as February 26th 2011.

See how we got on with the new console in our Nintendo 3DS Hands-on Preview from Nintendo's London event back in July.

Awesome. Smilie

Too bad that those events will fully be about the 3DS though, as I was hoping for a new Skyward Sword trailer. It has been almost half a year now and I'm dying to see some new footage...

They've waited long to announce US/EU prices cause they know we're not gonna be happy. Iwata said that the high Japanese price is a result of the great response to the handheld so I'm expecting the same here. Smilie

I'd be surprised if it's anything less than £180 in the UK. I wouldn't however, be surprised if the price is higher than £180.

The most I'd pay for one (and this is stretching it) is £150. I'd prefer price of around £130 though.

Any more than that though and I won't be buying one.

Yeah, the price is going to be off-putting for many but then again, new tech is never cheap and we certainly can't expect a 3D handheld that doesn't require glasses to be cheap.

It's still somewhat affordable though, especially because we've known about the 3DS for almost half a year now and that was enough time to save up for one if you ask me.

I think the price would be reasonable enough. Nintendo have to look at their biggest opponent at the moment which is Apple and their iPod Touch. The lowest 8gb models costs £189, now if the 3DS was around £180 mark then it would be fine.

£199.99 is my guess for the UK. Hopefully I'll be able to attend the conference. We shall see Smilie

Some online shops put the 3DS on their catalogue a while ago at a whopping €249 (£210), before quickly removing it. Was it an early leak of the final launch price or just a stretch on their part ? We'll know in January.

I think that's just a mistake on there part, probably to get some attention.

Would be great if I didn't have Uni that day.

I actually think £200 is a reasonable price.. especially when you consider the 3D Tech and power of the GPU among other components.

Dang New York always get's the special events, grrrrrr at New York. O well honestly there's been almost nothing happening here, on C3, I'd be happy to see more news here.

I hope it's not a pocket burner, for money, either. Well I love the huge jump, from the DS to the 3DS and I still can't wait to play on one. and can't wait till pokemon is on it.

When all is bad don't look for a easy way out. Because you wont know what to do once your out

Well honestly, we don't even know what it costs them to produce a 3DS. What's the cost for one of those GPUs or the 3D screen ? How can we know if £200 would be a good price for the tech ? Just the fact that it's new and seems to be pretty powerful isn't enough to judge if the price is right or not... I can tell though that on a psychological level, a price of £200 would be too much

I've got an exam that day in Uni ¬¬

Better give me some good news when I get home. I'd be quite happy with £180. Seems about right, but of course I'd probably consider it for double that... stupid fanboyism!

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

I thought the Wii was too expensive when it first came out, but it was sold out for an entire year before I found one in shops. Whatever Nintendo prices its handheld at, I'm sure it will sell like some sort of cakes.

Dang....NOTHING comes to Phoenix Arizona... :-x

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

I'm not likely going to get one for a while, due to the price. Everywhere I've read predicts it won't pass $250, but I don't think it'll dip below $230 either. That's about as much as the Wii costs, lol.

I'm also interested in seeing how much the games cost. Think they'll cost the same as the DS games? I'm thinking they'll probably be closer to the price of Wii games, myself.

Also, what's with all of the comparisons to Apple? I don't think Nintendo really considers them a competitor at all.

Basically, the average person is going to buy a DS or a PSP... and and iPod. People won't really have to choose either/or when it comes to 3DS or iPod. If they do, it'll be because of monetary constraints, though, but it's still the kind of thing where they'd buy one first, not necessarily choosing not to buy the other at all.

The iPod is a multi-task device. While the 3DS can do a lot of the same things, it's main focus is going to be games, whereas anyone with a Mac can make a game for iPod Touch, and Apple doesn't really demand quality the way Nintendo does.

The iPod might cost less, but I'm almost positive that anyone with a functioning brain stem will, when it comes to video games, want a 3DS. It'll have Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, all those great franchises. The iPod will have... lots and lots of fart apps to play with.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for £200. Sounds about right to me considering it'll be the first glasses-less 3D game system on the market.

Providing nobody manages to sneak out before them, diminishing its overall impact.

Well, I think Nintendo have already announced that the prices will be the same as the current DS titles.
