European 3DS Release: March 25th 2011 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo of Europe is bringing 3D to Amsterdam this week, confirming pricing and plans to bring the new Nintendo 3DS to the continent.

After scoffing down a buffet and being engrossed in the hotel surroundings, we’ve sat down to finally hear concrete plans for new hardware outside of Japan. First off, a release date. You’ll be pleased to know (or not, if there’s not enough pennies in the piggie) that the Nintendo 3DS is out on March 25th 2011 in Europe, two days before the US.

An official RRP wasn't mentioned, however Nintendo mentioned "retailers have already set their pricing" - so expect to pay anything from £150 - £250 (going by conversion rates) and fierce competition between stores.

There’ll be two colour flavours at launch, the rather swanky Aqua Blue edition sitting alongside the Cosmo Black variety. Inside the package you’ll get the usual instructional material, a handful of augmented reality cards and 3DS accessories to get you going.

As for the games... During the launch period European 3DS adopters can grab hold of the following titles to enjoy in glorious 3D:

To be confirmed...

More details to come - be sure to check out our live twitter updates from the event and media updates throughout the day.

What do you think about the Nintendo 3DS release date and price in Europe? Will you be one of the early adopters of the new 3D system? What launch titles are worthy of your pennies?

GAME has it listed as £229.99 and Amazon have it listed as £219.99

I expect Asda, Tesco, et al, to do it for £200. Worry not. Smilie

Why are people always surprised when we end up paying more in the UK, it's been like that for years.

I hope there is price wars between retailers and it forces prices down.

Yup, at least when you consider the game's price; £227.91 with Monkey Ball.

Game Gears has it for £195 too.

Even with price competition though, anything over the Wii's initial price is way too high.

you guys have to see the good things at least you are getting it before America.

as for Japan for getting it before all of us, is paying $300.

and in Australia they have to pay more I think.

PS3 is just good for Catherine, Demons souls, Dark Souls, and Folklore

The Average UK price equals about $360 which is much more than anywhere I've seen so far.

The € price isn't much better either. Amazon and others have it on pre-order for €250 which is about $335. It's simply so much fun to just swap the currency from the US price, isn't it? Smilie

Hopefully fierce competition between retailers will force prices down a bit until launch. I'm lucky though, my 18th birthday is just a month later and my mum said I'll get one since it's my 18th and I don't want some big party or whatever. Going to preorder now...

EDIT: LOL at the Status updates from LKR000 and Marzy.
