Cubed3 overheard a very interesting snippet about the real cost of a Nintendo 3DS at the special product conference in Amsterdam on 19th January, 2011. In the evening, after the various developer roundtables and majority of gameplay time, alcohol was clearly flowing much more freely than it had been earlier in the day, which tends to lead to loose tongues. Whilst walking past one particular group of people the following comment was heard:
Person 1: "You guys must be happy about the deal!"
Person 2: "We're making a tidy profit, let's just put it that way."
Person 1: "How much we talking, roughly?"
Person 2: *laughs* "Well, about 170 to 180 compared to what we're selling it for...not bad, right?"
What could well have been idle chatter appears to be backed up by a report over on GamesRadar as well, with a reporter from that website hearing a more specific number of GBP173. What does this mean, though? Well, a price war is about to unfold before our very eyes, as retailers battle it out to offer the best deal to lure potential gamers to make that essential purchase.
What price are you hoping to pick up a Nintendo 3DS for?
