Miyamoto Confirms Super Mario Bros 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo legend and Mario's father Shigeru Miyamoto recently confirmed that he is hard at work on Super Mario Bros. for 3DS.

The company struck more gold than Wario would ever dream of hauling with the New Super Mario Bros. duo for Wii and DS, and by the looks of things the classic Mario action is set to continue for the upcoming handheld.

A new Mario game is hardly a surprise for any new Nintendo hardware, and back in November 2010 Miyamoto confirmed that there will be Mario games of a classic side-scrolling nature, and also 3D platformers.

Those awaiting for a new game can rest assured - it's in development "in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition," and that Miyamoto wants to "show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS."

If it is a 2D sidescroller, I'd like to see a different art style than NSMB and NSMBW. I'm not expecting sprites, but something to differentiate it from those two games. Maybe Mario can return to the theater stage like in Super Mario World and traverse environments taken out of plays, rather than the boring sand/ice/beach worlds.

I want a 3D Mario. With the Circle Pad, 3D games should control much better than they did on the DS.

If it is a 2D game, I hope they don't simply call it "NEW! Super Mario Bros. 3DS". Smilie

NEW! Super Mario World anyone? Smilie

I agree, I want a new art style. Zelda: SS's art style is based upon paintings of a certain time period. So I think it would be great if Miyamoto found another influence for the new side-scrolling Mario game.

I'd also like him to maybe make it similar to Galaxy 2's side-scrolling parts (just faster paced).
But who am I kidding? I'm calling it: NEW Super Mario Bros. 3DS.

"Do a Barrel Roll!"

wow I never expected Shiggy to be so excited to show us something most of the time they are always hiding it from us Smilie

but maybe something big will come out from this game I know it is big already Mario Smilie
but it will attract more people to the 3ds which is good I can't wait Smilie

PS3 is just good for Catherine, Demons souls, Dark Souls, and Folklore

Co-op, co-op, co-op! That's what I want! In fact, do a SMB3 style game with great level design and awesome new power-ups to match! New Super Mario Bros was great on both systems but I definitely feel it was lacking a few extra power-ups on both fronts. I'd be even happy with the return of a few classics (ie the Hammerhead Bros Suit and the lovable Tanooki Suit).

As far as the 3D platformers go, I'd be willing to play SM64 a third time if it had a devoted co-op mode for the main adventure. It was suppose to happen on the DS, but was scrapped and now honestly, with the 3DS, there is NO EXCUSES Nintendo. You can even do a remake of the Sunshine game or one of the Galaxy games, I don't care... I just want Mario & Luigi to stand side by side in an adventure so that me and my best friend(s) can kick Bowser's ass together!

MAKE IT HAPPEN NINTENDO! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! Smilie

Whatever it is, since it's from Miyamoto it will, without a doubt, be amazing. Smilie Certainly going to be a system seller right there.

If he's so eager to show it to us, maybe we'll even see or hear something before this year's E3?

YES This is what I have been waiting for. Thank you Miyamoto.

It's likely, Miyamoto said in an interview some time ago that Nintendo's Investors wanted New Super Mario World for DS. So maybe this is going to be the title for the new one on 3DS Smilie.

It's going to be 2D with the same old sprites, they won't jeopardize the revenue from the big casual market for the sake of keeping the fans happy.
