Presenting the 3DS Hologram Display on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The 3DS pre-launch event at Bristol this weekend had a rather spiffy hologram projector popping out bits of the 3DS interface.

According to Kotaku, it's a glass prism that projects 3D holographic images for passers by to gaze at in wonder. A rather funky distraction from the main 3DS testing area!

To get you ready for the 3DS launch events, Nintendo has been holding demonstrations in cities across the UK and will be popping by an area near you soon! To keep up to date on the 3DS tour, be sure to check Nintendo UK's event page from time to time.

Admit it already, Nintendo! Your next home console is going to feature holograms. Smilie

It would be perfect for RTS', I can see this games being made with holograms in the future, and I'm sure Nintendo will use something like it.

Only thing is, wouldn't you have to be in a fairly dark room see everything properly?

wow that hologram thing is kick ass, does any know how much that will cost, because Nintendo can use that, for a videogame, home console.
(like SirLink said) Smilie

Also Stulaw, that will be perfect for horror games, for a dark room.

Its not a hologram, its just projecting onto angled transparent sheats inside.
The clever part is the material is transparent except when projected on - but there is no existing technology to make light "stop" and reflect in midair.

I've seen this trick done exactly with this set up a few times, theres even one example where it was done massively with a car rotating. (didnt look as good though at that scale).

This thing isn't even 3D, that is, both eyes get the same angle so it has no depth.

Darn..I sound like a real kill-joy here Smilie

I really hope this comes to the US.....specifically Phoenix Arizona. Smilie

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

That is pretty neat, but to those expecting holograms in games, that is not very realistic. You still need some sort of glass or crystal medium to project images into.

Darkflame how could you?! Smilie
