Speaking to CNN about Nintendo's future, Reggie Fils-Aime commented on whether the next home console would support 3D.
Nintendo had previously revealed that pre-3DS, the company had toyed with the idea of having a specialist 3D projector, even making a mock-up as an attachment for the GameCube. 3D content for the home still requires the use for specialist glasses, often expensive and still limited in the marketplace driven by HD and traditional SD television sets.
The 3DS's core philosophy is "3D gaming and media without glasses", and with that in mind, it's unlikely that the next console would do 3D, according to Reggie.
We've not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we've learned on 3-D, likely, that won't be it.
