Fez on Nintendo WiiWare Dismissed

Fez on Nintendo WiiWare Dismissed on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The developer of Fez for XBLA has confirmed he has no intention of bringing it to Nintendo's WiiWare download service. Speaking in a brief chat at PAX East, Phil Fish, the game's co-creator, spoke extremely negatively about Nintendo's Wii download service.

When asked about bringing the 2D-game-meets-3D-world, he said:

Right now we're only concentrating on XBLA, which makes the most sense for us at the time. PC and PSN would also make a lot of sense, but in my opinion, WiiWare just wouldn't be worth our time and effort. It's a dismal system that I don't want to deal with neither as a customer, nor a developer. No demos? F*ck off.

He is aware that Nintendo offers demo versions of games nowadays, but apparently because only certain games receive a demo, and one that only has a limited time on WiiWare anyway, Mr. Fish cannot be convinced.

Talking about the Nintendo 3DS, he added:

As for the 3DS, well, that would just have to be a completely different game. If I'm going to make a game that uses stereoscopic graphics, it's gonna be built from the ground up for that. Oh wait! I already did that. http://polytroncorporation.com/games/super-hypercube wink-wink nudge-nudge.

Are you disappointed that Fez will not be landing on WiiWare, and would you like to see it on 3DS?

Not really, as I don't really like those types of games. Even cave story doesn't interest me, despite it supposed to be really good.

the guys an ass but Nintendo's online download service IS pretty crap, dispite if the games are good or not theirs just too many rescrictions to developers for whats already a weak limited market.

He's not an arse. Nintendos online affairs are frustratingly poor. There is just no reason for it.

If I was a dev and saw how hard it was for the devs of super meat boy I would say fuck of. This isnt the early 90's. Nintendo cant act how it wants and have devs bow. Especially since third parties keep complaining about sales.

I hadn't even heard of it until now, but it looks good.

The music is excellent.

I dont think filesize is such an excuse (with meetboy its because of the music), but limited time demos are mindblowingly stupid. Is that really the case with WiiWare demos, however?
I thought it was just DS demos?

Going back to the size thing, its interesting to note microsoft used to have a 50MB limit as well, but thats been slowly increaseing upto 350MB (and if your a big brand your allowed more)
