Actraiser from Enix......To Receive a Make-Over? UpdatedIt turns out that Square Enix, as part of its endeavour to conquer the world of mobile gaming, has decided to resurrect many of its older titles, as well as other defunct companies' games, on mobile phones. One of these is none other than Actraiser, according to 1UP. So does this mean that the game will not also come to the GBA in either remake form or sequel? Not necessarily, although I would not advise you to hold your breath...Updated - 19th January, 2004Game Labo is now reporting that Square Enix will apparently bring a remake of Actraiser to the Nintendo's Game Boy Advance in the near future as part of an on-going process to revive older franchises, as was recently seen with the complete reworking of Seiken Densetsu into the delightful Sword of Mana. If there is any truth in this statement, expect an announcement at this year's E3 event in May, 2004. With Square Enix stating that this year's show will be the company's largest ever appearance, and as so far only a near-complete version of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories has been announced for the GBA, details will most likely be forthcoming then. Here is a quick overview of both Actraiser (1991) and Actraiser 2 (1993), courtesy of MobyGames: ActraiserActraiser was one of the early SNES games drawing upon the success of side-scrolling platform action titles and the building model of SimCity. You play "The Master" (essentially God), and must save the world from evil. First you purge the land by sending your spirit into a warrior with a big sword and magic powers. This side scrolling portion puts players in many different locales, from swamps and forests, to pyramids and snowy mountaintops. As you eliminate evil from different parts of the land, you allow villagers to return and build their towns. You then control an angel who helps guide the villagers in their town building, and can send down miracles to aid them in their needs. Actraiser 2Players control "The Master," a god-like spirit sent down from the heavens, and fight to eradicate evil from the land. This sequel to Actraiser focuses entirely on the side-scrolling action of the original, and has 14 levels with new monsters, new abilities, and new super powers. You still control a "Cloud Palace" across a zoomable map of the world, choosing your next area of battle. In addition, many of the sound effects from the original game make their reappearance, as well as some hidden RPG elements. Changes from the original Actraiser include the elimination of the "Simcity/Populous" village-building mode, a move from a battery-save to password-save system, and a new musical score. Original Story: 8th December, 2003Quick News - As is becoming more common nowadays, trademarked names are a great source for news. Last month Square Enix registered the name 'Actraiser' at the US Patent Office. For those that do not recall, the superb 'action game with extras', Actraiser, came out in 1990 for the SNES and its weaker sequel followed in 1993 - both published by Enix in all territories. Whether Square Enix plans to do anything in the near future with the franchise is currently unknown, but keep it tuned to C3 for any further developments! Please Post Your Comments Below!
