RE: Revelations a Direct Sequel to RE5? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Whilst many are still waiting for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on the 3DS, many more have been waiting for the other Resident Evil title on Nintendo's 3D handheld, Resident Evil: Revelations.

With Capcom constantly praising the game with the franchise taking a step-back into survival horror, and now Masachika Kawata has put his thoughts in as well calling the game a direct sequel to Resident Evil 5.

Speaking to Nintendo Power, he said:

Unlike Mercenaries, which is all about shooting action, Revelations is all about survival horror, the very genre Resident Evil established. We actually think of Revelations as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 5 and it will be full of new, innovative ideas and characters.

Wait what? I swear they said it was a prequel.

We knew already that this was going to be a return to the roots of the series, which is true survival horror as opposed to the more action oriented direction the series had taken since RE4.

Not exactly surprised that this is a sequel to RE5. Just disappointed that they didn't dare number it RE6, just because it's on a handheld.

Yeah, between 4 and 5 :/

...I think Kawata got it wrong, unless the translations effed up or something. Last I heard, this game was set in between 4 and 5.

Hmm - that's what I've been saying before as well, I thought it was between 4 & 5?

I don't remember hearing it would be a prequel, but the context of this statement seems to be gameplay, not storyline.

I think he meant that we should view it as a direct sequel to RE 5 in terms of effort put into the game and so on, just that it's not called RE 6.

That would make sense. Storywise I've heard it's between 4 and 5. Hence why Jill has her original design and not the blonde superpowered bitch one... THANK GOD.
