New Tales of the Abyss 3DS Details on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The latest issue of US magazine Nintendo Power has new tidbits of information on the 3DS version of Tales of the Abyss.

The well-received 2005 PlayStation 2 RPG is heading to the 3DS this year, and will also receive a US/North American release like the original.

Tales producer Makoto Yoshizumi spoke to the magazine about the new version, expressing a desire to bring export more Tales games to North America and beyond.

  • The team has been hard at work recreating the experience on Nintendo's handheld, squeezing every part of the game - even voice data - onto the cart.
  • Voice samples were tricky to fit however.
  • Every part of the game, except the animated cutscenes, have been remodelled in 3D. Some character designs were tweaked to improve performance and keep quality high.
  • Tweaks to control schemes/differences, but no new content additions, weapons or areas.
  • No wireless features - online, StreetPass etc.
  • The team have discussed a sequel to Abyss but nothing concrete enough to form a full game.
  • Yoshizumi appreciates Twitter comments from fans. Hopes to localise more Tales games in the future into English.

    This is so awesome! Tales of the Abyss is the game I've been looking forward to the most for the 3DS! I can't wait to play it!

    I never had a PS2 so I didn't get to play the original, I loved Tales of Symphonia though, so this should be awesome too!
