Professor Layton and the Last Spectre on Nintendo DS is heading to the US, despite concerns that it would be skipped in favour of the first entry on Nintendo 3DS. Despite the massive success of Professor Layton and the Lost Future, many were concerned at the fact that the Nintendo DS market has been on the decline since last year and that Nintendo has not spoken about any Professor Layton game since the third and final release in the original trilogy landed at retail in Autumn 2010.
Only Level-5 itself has touted an eventual Western release of Professor Layton and the Mask of the Miracle, the first 3DS version and fifth game in the multi-million selling series. However, story-wise it would make no sense to launch that without its predecessor on DS, since it is the second part in the next trilogy, which takes place prior to the first set of puzzle adventures.
It has been discovered that a trademark has indeed been placed for Professor Layton and the Last Spectre in the US (well, Specter, to give its US spelling...), with a full reveal at next week's E3 expected.
