Valve May Make Games For Wii U

This morning in a Keynote speech that took place at New York's Games for Change festival, Valve head and co-founder Gabe Newell spoke to Joystiq about the possibilities of any of Valves games being developed for Nintendo's Wii U.

This may come of interest to some fans since a Valve game has never been on a Nintendo console before, and this is what he had to say.

Wii U seems to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation,

It sort of fits better into the scalability in terms of graphics performance and CPU performance, so I think it'll be a lot easier for us to fit it into our scalability model.

    We've always loved Nintendo.

After talking about making PC games fit to the other home consoles, he then said:

Now it's a lot easier to look at Wii U and have it fit within that framework.

Are you a fan of Valve? What would you like to see Valve do with the Wii U controller?

!!!!! Awesome news. Smilie It's good to have Valve on board.

I don't see them do too gimmicky things with the Upad... and I don't know if I want them to. Their games are great enough as they are.

This is great. Considering, in my opinion, that Valve is one of the few companies out there that is constantly innovating, they should be able to come up with really neat stuff.

Interesting to know that Valve always loved Nintendo for the Wii U! Smilie Definitely excited about what they might come up with for the Wii U.

When I read this on Joystiq I thought it was good to know.

Maybe they'll put Steam on the console with it's flexible online system.

I only just picked up the orange box. Loved half life 2. Always wanted to play those games with the wii remote as Im a big advocate of pointer controls. Valve and the guys behind Bioshock I think are the best of FPS. In a genre that has become really dull and generic these two titles really stand out. Bioshock infinite looks so amazing.

^ Funny you should say that as I've actually just completed all of The Orange Box and am now playing through Bioshock. Definitely some of the best FPS games I've played after TimeSplitters. If the Wii U could get the likes of Bioshock Infinite and Half Life 3 then it would be great for the system.

Can't say I'm really interested in anything they've done so far. I hate FPS in general. Portal however... Smilie.

This + Bioware & Epic support would be VERY helpful for Nintendo regaining their Crown within the "Hardcore" market...or at least help newblete gamers stop raging against Nintendo without any experience to back up their rediculous claims.
It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone.Smilie

Yes! This is fantastic! I hope a Valve game on a Nintendo console happens. I liked the WiiU at first, but the more info that comes out about it the more skeptical I become. However, if Valve approves, I may be persuaded to buy the WiiU yet.

Value love Nintendo so much that they show that love by never releasing a game for a Nintendo platform.

I have been playing bioshock 2 as well as orange box. I got a PS3 for xmas and got so many games for around £10. Bioshock 2 was £7 brand new from game (something that just refuses to happen with nintendo games 5yrs on) Really like that game. Im not a big on FPS games I prefer to see my character but like I said: they really stand out amongst the COD's.

Yep, had this same discussion before - PS3 games drop to around a tenner not even nearly 1 year on. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is £15 now. I've picked up tons of games for a tenner or less. It's crazy that bloody Wii games stay so pricey.

But yeah, I'm not even an FPS player either. COD and the like has never interested me once. TimeSplitters is a different story though. I took a gamble on Orange Box and Bioshock after hearing such rave reviews about both. I love Portal but I won't get P2 just yet - it's down to £25 now but will be much cheaper soon. Might as well wait. Then of course there's Half Life 2 which I really got into.

So it's always worth spreading your wings a bit and diving into genres you aren't familiar with every now and then, especially when the games are so damn cheap. Usually, the reviews aren't wrong, and hell, you might end up becoming a fan of a new series. It's a shame people miss out on some quality games because they won't take a chance sometimes.

Nintendo games don't become cheap, what??

I have bought (new in store):
    Battalion Wars ii €17,50
    Geometry Wars Galaxies €5
    Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn €10
Disaster: Day of Crisis (ugh!) €10
Link's Crossbow Training (incl shell) €10
    Okami €10
    Boom Blox Smash Party €15

And then I've seen games like Punch-Out for €5.
They may be harder to find, but Nintendo sure does have discounted games. Just not the biggest ones, because they don't have to lower the price for them.

Those games aren't really anything special. Maybe Fire Emblem and BWii. Link's Crossbow? No. Okami is an old PS2 game that should be cheap. It's like you said - it's the big titles that don't drop, whereas most big titles on PS3 go on budget after selling 1 million, and drop even further before a year.

Fair enough if they don't need to drop them if they are selling so well at that price, but you get much more value for money on PS3/360 with the amount of actual quality titles that are much cheaper.
