Monolith Soft Working on Wii U on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Monolith Soft has confirmed that its next major project will come to Nintendo's Wii U console. The developer that has previously released two Baten Kaitos RPGs on GameCube, as well as Disaster: Day of Crisis and Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii, has updated its website with news of the team expanding, hoping to hire new staff to work on a Wii U project.

The company has actually been looking to recruit the following since last year before the Wii U was revealed, and released some teaser artwork:

  • Programmers (Havok and Shader experience),
  • Planners,
  • 3D CG artists,
  • 2D designers (character and mecha design experience),
  • Effect designers,
  • Motion designers,
  • Office staff.

Would you like to see Raymond Bryce return in another Disaster: Day of Crisis, the long promised return of Baten Kaitos, or something completely new?

I would like to see a world like xenoblade in glorious HD and high res textures. No more Baten please.

Going by that one artwork they released, it's with almost absolute certainty a JRPG and nothing like Disaster: Day of Crisis. I mean just look, that artwork basically screams JRPG. Might also be a better fitting picture for this article since it's the only thing we have from their new game.

I'm hoping for another Baten Kaitos as the original is my favorite RPG of all time. The battle system was simply amazing. I'd be more than content with "just" a new JRPG as well though. Smilie

I'd seen that art a while back, but slipped my mind. Thanks for that Smilie

I always thought it was such a shame that Baten Kaitos Origins never made it to Europe. They should do an upgraded release featuring the first time before doing a third to help build hype.

However, I also agree with the comments about 'Disaster 2' - would love to see that, and the team *did* say there were ideas for a second game in a Cubed3 interview...

IMHO, a new Baten Kaitos using the touch screen interface of the Wii U controller or 3DS would work wonders for selecting the magnus in-game Smilie. Much better than joysticks anyway.

Regarding that artwork, I already posted my thoughts on that in the forums, but those who played the first Baten Kaitos have reasons to believe that this artwork is related to that series specifically and could take place after the events of the first game.

Haha, please no new disaster.

I've never played a Baten Kaitos, so my vote is for something new.

BRING Disaster Day of Crisis OVER TO THE USA...I DEMAND IT!!!!!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Well, if it's anything to do with the artwork, it's almost definitely an RPG.

I played Baten Kaitos 1 and Baten Kaitos 2, I love the storyline due to because they were great. I love the artwork in Baten Kaitos, it is fantastic I must say. I prefer to have a Baten Kaitos 3 instead, please!
