Nintendo 3DS Aids Namco Bandai Profit on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Certain third parties maybe shying away from the 3DS, but Namco Bandai has seen success this year thanks to Nintendo's portable.

Earlier this week the publisher revealed figures for the last quarter (April - June 2011), with the top three titles all for 3DS: One Piece, Tales of the Abyss and Ridge Racer 3D.

Overall revenue for Namco Bandai were up around 108% to 88.24 billion yen ($1.1 billion). A previous loss of 1.64yen billion ($21.2 million) was converted to a healthy 3.25yen billion ($42.1 million) net profit, partially thanks to the success on the new 3D handheld.

One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP flogged 170,000 units in Japan alone, with Tales of the Abyss nabbing 150,000 units in home turf. Worldwide sales of Ridge Racer 3D have totalled 90,000 units.

Hopefully they'll not abandon the platform with results like that. I'm not enjoying all these stories of doom that are going around. I really want the 3DS to succeed.
I don't care what anyonne says - mobile games are not the same as a dedicated portable. There's room enough for both - mobiles for bit sized bits and dedicated handhelds for more immersive experiences.
We just need the software.

Well, they made a profit thanks to the 3DS sales so I don't think they're mad about the sales totals. I want the 3DS Tales game over here and as for Ridge Racer... well, it's not that great of a game.

I'm just glad to see Tales of the Abyss make it over to the U.S. Hopefully the total lack of RPG on the 3ds will work in the Namco's favor and it will sell well in the states as well.

well NAMCO nows the time to give us soul calibur 3D and Tekken 3D also make a decent original FPS with the touch screen used 4 gun movement using the stylus.
