Zelda Backs Majora's Mask 3DS Campaign

By Jorge Ba-oh 22.08.2011 21

Zelda Backs Majora

Zelda fans are campaigning for a 3DS Majora's Mask remake and now have the backing from one of the biggest fans, Zelda herself.

Operation Moonfall was setup by dedicated Nintendo fans in a bid to bring the 2000 Nintendo 64 game to the modern age on the 3DS. The unique entry in the long-running adventure series still has a strong following with fans over a decade on, praised for its innovative time mechanic and character development. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS receiving high praise (Cubed3 9/10) across the board, it looks like Majora's Mask is a strong contender for another 3DS remake.

Zelda Williams, long-term fan and the recent face of the 3DS advertising campaign recently tweeted her appreciation of the Operation Moonfall movement:

So wanted to tweet one out to the @opmoonfall folks. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game, I'd love a 3D version! #FightOnGuy

Back in July, series producer Eiji Aonuma hinted that it wouldn't be an "utter impossibility" if there "was a similar output of emotion and clamour from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask".

Remakes are a hot topic recently, with Critical Hit urging Nintendo to give remakes a rest.

Would you like to see the game remade for the 3DS, or perhaps Nintendo should consider the project for the Wii U?

I don't understand the need for all this, it's not like they wouldn't make it anyway, and even if they didn't they could just put the original on the 3DS VC as well.

N64 games haven't been confirmed for the eShop service. Also, with a few platform exceptions, NES mainly, as the PC Engine had the GT/Express, Nintendo are focusing on releasing handheld games for the 3DS's service, while trying to avoid console games.

It'll come out on 3DS - this is completely pointless, fans should be focusing on more important things, like Mother/Earthbound remakes.

I like that Zelda. Bet she's hairy though.

What makes you so sure it will come out anyway?
Nintendo doesnt actualy remake or re-release much at all.

I think they should remake this, it isn't a waste of Nintendo's time because they can have Grezzo handle the development, like they did with Ocarina of Time 3D.

For those of you who don't want remakes or anything, then don't buy them! There are some of us who would like to experience some home console games on handheld. I am one of these people. Having two of my favourite Zelda games on handheld is something I have always wanted.

For those of you worried that this means no orignal Zelda from Nintendo, I'm pretty sure the Skyward Sword team will start work on it when they've finished with their current project. Or the other Zelda team will start/has already started development on it. (Not sure how things work..)

As long as companies remake quality titles such as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask I do not mind. It's nice that they work on original projects too, though. Which I'm sure Nintendo are also doing.

Some remakes are also beneficial for those who have not played the original games too. I have never played MGS3 or Tales of the Abyss* before, so owning a 3DS is great for me, so I can play those two games.

*Come to think of it, I haven't played any of the Tales games... don't shun me. D:

Yes! While Majoras Mask is a great game I feel that some of the ideas set in the cartridge could have been expanded even further had it been released on the GC instead of on the N64 (RAM, I curse thee!). Looking forward to this as I've been wanting to replay it and having it on the 3DS would make that easier as playing on portables is easier than on the consoles.

I wish Zelda Williams would fuck off and get cancer. She's only being mentioned here because her first name is Zelda, and is only famous because her dad is Robin Williams. She has done nothing worthy of everyone talking about her. Those Zelda ads for OoT 3DS with them two in it made me cringe so fucking hard. Vomit-inducing. She's probably only even named Zelda because Williams was such a huge coke-head back then.

As for Majora's Mask - leave it the fuck alone. It was perfect as it was. If it's to be touched up with better textures etc, put it on the Wii U and use the best (Nintendo) hardware available.

Is OoT not a console game? I know that's not your point really, but I'm just saying.

I do agree, Op Moonfall seems a bit needless. Op Rainfall made a lot of sense. A new petition for, as Squidboy mentioned, something like Earthbound would make more sense. I can't see any reason why MM3D won't happen.

If it's to be touched up with better textures etc, put it on the Wii U and use the best (Nintendo) hardware available.

As much as I agree, you know this is not going to happen. Bastards.

I would like them to expand on features in MM3D though, like Eden said. OOT3D didn't have enough in it. It really needs more extras like dungeons or things they intended to do originally that had to be cut. That's really the only way you can justify re-releasing it.

It's inevitable, whether you like it or not.

Give me a Majora's Mask Master Quest and I'll be happy. Smilie

No need to be a dick. And your OoT point is invalid, he was clearly talking about releasing console games on the eShop, not as actual cartridge titles.

Majora's Mask would be epic on Wii U. Doubt it'll happen, Nintendo for some reason thinks people will hate their remakes if they don't keep them "classic" enough, hence OoT and Starfox not really acheiving what the 3DS is capable of.

I'm getting sick of ports and remakes though. I want new games, not slightly better versions of games I've beaten a hundred times. I'm with you, if you're going to remake a game, at least go all out. Even on 3DS, Majora's Mask could be really cool if they would push the system to its limits, but I'm sure they won't.

The more they change the more resources they use.

Porting, or upping the textures = cheap and quick.

Full remodeling, new engine, using shaders and all the consoles features = almost as expensive/time taking as a new game.

MM should be avalible for new buyers, no question, but you cant start doing massive full console remakes without huge money and people invested and that means less of everything else.
If Nintendo hired a third party, that costs them more.
If Nintendo do it themselves, it takes away resources from other things.
In both cases too, no mater how much money you have, theres only a finite number of skilled people out there for really high quality games.

I mean, even with 3rd partys Id rather have another new "minish cap" then a HD Majoras Mask remake...wouldn't you?

I love Majora's Mask, I'm all for a 3DS remake. Ocarina of Time 3D was sweet, and most of Majora's Mask is done already in Ocarina of Time 3D, so easy for them and fans would be happy.

I'm sure nintendo will do a Majora's Mask remake, if not i will be very surprised, but I am sure with this op moonfall it makes it almost certain.

Then again NoA doesn't listen to the fans... so...

Say what you want about Nintendo, but you can't deny one thing, they are marketing geniuses. They starve us just enough with the old to tide us over a little and yet still make us want more "new."

What other company sells old products, like Ocarina of Time and Starfox 64, and by doing so creates demand for new products, like Mario 3d land, and Mario Kart 7? Why can nobody see this? Its the strip-tease of marketing.

Here we are, talking about a game they made eleven years ago. And you know what? its available on the Wii's virtual console right now. That's word of mouth marketing, folks. Nintendo loves us right now, and I feel like a tool...

So nobody else thought the advert was thoroughly cringe-worthy?

Name me one Wii advert which isnt cringe worthy, its Nintendo for fuck sake, they had a Soccer mom doing e3's. Thats what they do.

But the OoT 3DS ad was an all-time low for them. A real "Oh my god, they really have stooped lower than ever with this one". Robin Williams selling his unfortunately-named daughter, who as I said was probably only named that due to his cocaine-binging back then. A shit ad for a shit game is one thing, but the OoT 3DS one made me want to slit the throat of everyone involved. It was so bad that I had great difficulty watching it.

my name? (guest) 25.08.2011#20

please make it with a cherry on top!Smilie..... dang it. now im craving cherrys!Smilie

If Nintendo does do this I'd like them to put more effort into it like with StarFox 64 3D...maybe even some more masks or new side quests.

DEFINATLY put in orchestrated music this time & not just AFTER the end credits & improve the game visually over all kays.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422
