Full List of Free NES Games for 3DS (JP, NA) on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo of Japan have released a list of what games early 3DS adopters in the region will be able to download from September.

The company will be offering a handful of classic games for those who lapped up the new 3D hardware at launch as means of compensation for the price drop so early in the console's lifespan.

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Wrecking Crew
  • NES Open Tournament Golf
  • Yoshi
  • Metroid
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • All these games will be available to download from September 1st. It's likely Europe and North America will follow with a similar selection of classics.

    Via Kotaku.

Update: The same list has also been confirmed for North America by Nintendo themselves.

Yoshi's egg is just called "Yoshi" in the US and "Yoshi and Mario" in europe.

Personally im still not impressed, like i expected i own more than half of these games already for the real NES, I really don't call these common gems fair reinbursment for Nintendos current shakey marketing stratigies. I would of been happyer with £20-30 3ds points to spend on the estore for something id actually enjoy.

What shaky marketing strategy's? Nintendo hasn't lied to you - you knew the release lists and what was coming. If Nintendo lose's money due to miss-marketing and dont sale as many as they could of something, they suffer. That doesnt mean they owe you anything, however.

I must say the sense of entitlement people have these days is staggering.

Also, for that mater, 25GBP on the eStore wouldn't be worth nearly so much in terms of gameplay anyway. Most DSi/3DS stuff there is 4GBP or more each >_<

Yes i did see the release list, but you'd think we'd of gotten SOMETHING decent by now, but everythings good either getting delayed or canceled, i cant think of one title im looking forward to outside of being released in 2012/13. You are right though, its my fault for supporting them like a chump and buying on release day, its my fault their not supporting their own console with games, and its my own fault for being a fan as far as to collect old and new and to happen to already have their games the first, second or even third time they released them.

Three of those games are lame/dull. I wanted PunchOut!! and Super Mario Bros 2-3. I hope we dont get this selection in the West,

You took what he said way out of context. He actually had a point--you saw the release list. Why did you assume there would be more added to it later? That much is not Nintendo's fault. And "everything's getting delayed or cancelled" is quite hyperbolic. As far as I'm aware, one game has been cancelled and two Harvest Moon titles have been delayed.

I'm not happy with the line-up either, but I wasn't expecting more than was announced. And it's not like it hurts to have the system when something great finally does come out.

I can at least be happy knowing that if I was a Microsoft early adopter, all I'd be getting for compensation is a red ring of death and a bricked system Smilie

Anyway, this list is a little bit underwhelming, but still a nice gesture. I'm far more excited for the GBA games.

I'm really glad they are releasing zelda 2 on the 3ds, now i may finally have chance to complete all the zelda games ^_^

Good stuff and decent selection - I'll definitely be picking up Zelda I and II, Metroid and SMB. Definitely can't wait for Super Circuit from the GBA selection too Smilie

    'Mario and Yoshi', friend ;]

    Good titles though, for sure.

    Super Circuit

    Best Mario Kart game.

I've only really played 5 of these games properly the other 5 I have either played briefly or not at all. Glad Metroid's on the list, only played it briefly before. Not sure about Wrecking Crew, Mario and Yoshi or NES Open Tournament Golf though.. don't think I've played any of those.*

*By I don't think, I mean I probably have but I won't remember until I play them again. Smilie

I only own 3 of these so it's a good deal for me, and I've never played the 7 I don't own. I'll download the lot anyway, all 20 of the games won't take up more than a few measly Megabytes.

Download the whole lot? OF COURSE. We're getting them free, who cares if some of them are only average? Free games are always good.

I'm pretty happy with this. I like all those games, even if I own them all for NES.

Good enough list. At $5 each (VC prices) that's $50 of content and my guess is GBA games will retail at $8 and up (since they're on the same range as SNES games) which brings the total to $130 worth of games vs $80 price drop.

For the complainers out there, that's the price you pay for early adoption.

The 3DS launched with nothing that really interested me, and I'm glad I held off as I wound up getting the system at the lower price. Those that are still holding off will obviously get better deals in time, that's the way it works.

As for the games being given out it's really not that bad of a list, as they're giving out many of their big name games. Wrecking Crew rocks for those that haven't played it. I've got it on my PSP.

It's only $130 worth of games using Nintendo's overinflated pricing.
On iOS those would be maybe $20 worth of games, and that's being generous.

GBA games won't retail at all. There are no plans to release these or any GBA games to the 3DS virtual console at the moment.

I assume eventually Nintendo will get on that (it's basically free money for them since it's work they've already done anyway) but at the moment, Ambassadors are the only ones getting the GBA games.

Oh, please, tell me a game remotely like Zelda or Metroid in terms of length or quality for that price on iOS.
They dont exist. Theres plenty of great games on iOS (and Android), but they are made with much smaller budgets and normaly only a few hours long.
