Amoebattle Delayed Until 2012 on Nintendo DSiWare

Intrinsic Games have made the decision to delay their DSiWare real time strategy game Amoebattle. You'll now have to wait until 2012 before carefully stepping into some microbiological warfare. On the plus side, that gives you a little more time to brush up on your science.

Citing development difficulties, Intrinsic have pushed Amoebattle back so that they can ensure the quality of the game remains high throughout. Updates of the website will, accordingly, be scaled back to once fortnightly rather than weekly.

You can read more about Amoebattle in our hands-on preview. The parts we've played so far have been rather fantastic, so we're sobbing into our Petri dishes right now - but hopefully this delay means that the rest of the game is up to the same standards as the levels we playtested when it is eventually released on DSiWare and the eShop.

The good news, though, is that Intrinsic are getting ready to reveal their mysterious third project. As soon as we know more, we'll be throwing information at you.

You can learn things about Intrinsic Games in the issue of The Indie Scene dedicated to them, where we spoke to president Hersh Choksi. You can also hear Hersh and Amoebattle composers Igor Nemirovsky and Kenny Wood speak about videogame music on the August edition of the Cubed3 podcast.

Are you disappointed by Amoebattle's delay? What are your hopes for Intrinsic's third project?

That sounds to me like a change from DSiware to 3DS will be considered as well.
