Famitsu Reveals Monster Hunter 3G for 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

After a successful outing on PSP, Capcom will be bringing the Monster Hunter series to 3DS with an enhanced version of Monster Hunter Tri. The game is planned for an end of year release, and seeing as how the original made it overseas, this one should too.

Announced alongside the game was the Nintendo 3DS Expansion Cradle which will enable the game for Dual-Analog control.

Some basic details for the game have been mentioned. Water elements that were missed for the PSP edition of Tri are restored in 3G, and the controls for them are slightly different owing to the touch screen and button setup. Other titbits include include local wireless play and a new main cover monster named Blakidios. The game will be playable at Tokyo game show next week.

Will Monster Hunter Fans be eagerly anticipating this installment after it dominates Japan?

I doubt this will have such a big impact in Japan as the PSP ones. It remains a brand strongly associated with Sony over there, and a Monster Hunter was already announced for Vita when the console was unveiled. And you can bet that being able to play Monster Hunter online with your friends from ANYWHERE with the integrated 3G connection of the Vita will make people want to hold on a little bit.

That being said, I don't see the Monster Hunter for Vita coming out anytime soon, so the 3DS one might lure in more reluctant buyers who can't wait till the Vita one comes out. I just hope that Capcom will manage to make the game look incredible (they've proven themselves so far) so that 3DS owners don't feel completely screwed when the obviously better looking Monster Hunter Vita comes out.

I agree on a lot of what you wrote there... But there is ONE thing the 3DS has which will make this a better version (this is my opinion of course)= Monster hunting in 3D!!!!

Local wireless? Really? Do we get online aswell? I will get it regardless, but i hope that we get internet play as an option aswell.

The Wii MH3 has double the sales of any PS2 version.

So dont be so sure.

But the Wii version didn't sell anywhere near any of the PSP versions... I was talking in terms of handheld episodes.

That could just be because there was no competition at all. If people wanted Monster Hunter on a handheld, they had to go and buy the PSP games. The series is simply more popular on handhelds as well. I check out some MH communities from time to time and a majority there prefers playing it on a handheld.

From my understanding 3G is to slow to let you play online form anywhere. It's looking more like the Vita will use it for downloads from PSN and other "social" features.

Agree with most of Kafei says, there are some -major- hurdles for the game to overcome in Japan.

The lack of Online MP would be disasterous if nothing like "Ad -Hoc Party" is made available for WiiU. The West will never embrace the game without it - we'll never have the same meet culture as Japan has, our cultural differences play a major role in that.

Last year Capcom tried to spark something off before Tri's release, they opened "The Gathering Hall" in London's Charing Cross Rd.

Google: "Capcom Open Gathering Hall in Central London on July 3rd". I went along and posted a little report...

Online is essential in the West. If Capcom are serious about wanting to see the franchise grow in popularity here. It's inclusion is vital.

Well the PSP has sold 6 million more units than the Wii in Japan so that very well could be the reason for that.
Also there hasn't been a new MH announced for Vita yet, the one they showed was just a port of 3rd Portable on PSN just showing off the Vita's backward compatibility. You also can't use 3G to play Monster Hunter online since the lag would make it impossible to play, you'd need at least 4G to make it playable online.

Do none of the G games have online multiplayer? Because this is a huge step back from Trii.

The scan with the pink Rathian...I can't recall that area being in MH Tri. Maybe one from MHP3?

The Monster Hunter G port on Wii has online play and apparently online play has been confirmed for this game already.

There's a new targeting system as shown in the first scan. Camera controls on the touch screen so the second analogue stick is not needed.
There's a lot of new stuff in the second scan.

It's from Freedom Unite (Portable 2nd G).

Ah, thanks. Smilie Wasn't so sure as it's not a memorable location and I've only watched (many) videos of the PSP games.

Going by the scans, it seems that Capcom isn't messing around with this one. I'm seriously going to die if this doesn't get localised. Smilie

I'm definitely getting this if/when it gets localised! Smilie Can't wait. Looking pretty decent so far, but the scans aren't that great quality, so hopefully we'll see some gameplay trailers or something soon.

Nintendo of Europe have been good to us recently so hopefully this can continue.

It's gonna be playable next week, can't wait to see the new Monsters.

Indeed! Smilie A Q1/Q2 2012 release would be amazing. Just in time for my finals at school, too. Smilie I'd love to hunt some monsters with fellow C3ers! Smilie

I hope this game has somewhere near as much content as Freedom Unite. Tri was fantastic but it had much less to do in comparison (still enough to have lasted me 550 hours though). I'd probably still be playing it if it wasn't for that.

Yes. I am eagerly awaiting this. I love Monster Hunter.Smilie

Well from the looks of these new scans I've found it looks like they're adding a lot of content from Portable 3rd like all 12 weapon classes. Plus there's a pic of a brand new monster, it might be the main cover art monster like Lagiacrus was for Tri (the scans are very small =P):

Daaamn, thanks for posting those! Smilie Smilie I've always wanted to play with Dual Swords and a Bow but obviously that wasn't possible in Tri. I'm so hyped right now, I probably won't be able to sleep. Smilie So much new stuff for me coming from Tri, I can't fucking wait! Smilie

The new cover monster kinda looks like a Barroth on steroids, doesn't it? Smilie

Looking good on the surface, but I need to see this in motion, and assess the loading times.

The game needs to be easier to play on 3DS, online and off.

Anyone know if it has Voice Chat or any other form of communication that isn't dumb?
