First Footage of Zelda Four Swords on DSiWare on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Originally announced as a free porting of the original Four Swords game to DSiWare (and by extension the 3DS eShop) to celebrate The Legend of Zelda's 25th Aniversary, the first trailer in fact shows a more remade game.

The trailer showcases new sections in the original game that resemble areas taken from other Zelda titles; the original Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, and A Link to the Past. Also shown is a new solo one-player mode for the game, whereas the original only allowed for two to four players. Single players will be able to take control of each link independently too, by using the shoulder buttons to select.

What’s more, there are 2 exclusive new areas to play each containing 3 new levels to complete which have been specifically made for this edition of the game. By completing the new areas, each Link will be able to unlock additional special skills. Fans of the franchise will be familiar with the Hurricane Spin and Master Sword and both return to help you on your quest.
Mastering the challenging new area ‘Hero’s Trial’ which contains elements from other levels as well as 3 new maps will allow you to unlock the Hurricane Spin, whilst tackling the new area
‘Realm of Memories’ made up of famous locations from selected titles in The Legend of Zelda series, unlocks the Master Sword.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition also includes new control options including “whistle” functionality on the X Button, allowing players to call for attention, alert each other of their location on the map, as well as making use of the lower screen to show your inventory and place on the map.

A release date for the game has been given as 28th of September for Japan and Europe, free for a limited time only.

Looks pretty awesome, I'm glad they put the single player modes, and those retro areas look great.

This looks absolutely amazing. The only thing I would like to see now is online co-op, even if it doesn't have it I'll still be happy with this game. A great game for free... with added single player for all those loners like me. Smilie

This'll be an awesome game for Comic-con meetups. ^^

Wow, I thought that this download would be completely pointless for anyone without friends who also have a 3DS but an added single-player mode? THANKS Nintendo, now I can finally play the last Zelda game I haven't played! Smilie

So you played Zelda Game & Watch then ? Just kidding Smilie.

I felt exactly the same, I didn't expect it to be that awesome, although I would have really liked an online coop mode to be announced at long last. It hasn't been completely ruled out but it looks highly improbable that such a big feature would be left unannounced in a Japanese trailer so close to the game's Japanese release.

I was actually expecting someone to step in and mention the piece of shit Zelda CDI games but this does it as well. Smilie

Honestly, I would much rather have a full Four Swords sequel built for online over an added online mode for this but it's unlikely that that will ever happen. The formula they have here with Four Swords is crazy fun but they could make it so much better with new modes/items/features etc.
