Kojima: Metal Gear Solid 3DS due 2012 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima recently confirmed that the 3DS port of Snake Eater till hit the streets in 2012.

Previously it was uncertain when the new game would arrive, with reports and releases lists suggesting a "winter" time-frame. Kojima had a handful of announcements during a stage show at TGS over the weekend, one of which clarified the Japanese release. Fans can play with their Snake on the move in the early months of 2012 instead of in time for Christmas 2011.

The console HD series anthology, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is due out in the US in this November.

Nah I won't be getting the HD rerelease unless they include the GameCube Remake of MGS1...but then again I kinda don't want them to put it on the ps3 so it can stay a Nintendo exclusive which is better!!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Dude, it can't be a Nintendo exclusive if it came out on PS2 many years ago.

Fans can play with their Snake on the move

MGS remake was only on GameCube.

Kind of a kick in the nuts that Vita gets the whole HD collection next year while the 3DS only gets this.

It's still awesome for the 3DS to get an MGS title but I'm not sure I'll get it as opposed to the Vita's 'counterpart'.

I'm a big fan of Metal Gear games. I don't mind long cinematics in games if they're good.

I really hope this does well. Nintendo has so far only had remakes (not including the original Metal Gear games on NES & Gameboy of cause). It would be awesome if an original Metal Gear game came to Nintendo off the back of this doing well.

This is the only game in the series I haven't played & would much rather have it on 3DS than get the HD version. At least the 3DS game has reworked & improved graphics.

Kojima has said that the Vita version will support "Transfarring" saves to and from the PS3 version. It's possible to interpret this as meaning that the PS3 and Vita versions of the game are packaged together, making it a better value over the 3DS port.

The Vita has far better graphics, but the controls are a bit of a toss-up. While it's "bad" that the 3DS version requires the Slide Pad, it's "good" that the Slide Pad has the four shoulder buttons required for proper MGS gameplay.

It remains to be seen how well Vita's backtouch pad can emulate the functionality of R2 and L2. However, given that the Vita has all of its buttons already built in, ergonomically it might be better than the 3DS with attached Slide Pad.

I really wish they could've figured out a way to cram in two more shoulder buttons in Vita. They even could've been arranged in the style of the Wii Classic Controller.
