Marvelous Entertainment have launched the official website for a new Harvest Moon sim due for Nintendo's 3D handheld next year: Hajimari no Daichi.

According to Andriasang, the new project roughly translates as "First Earth", and is said to boast stronger customisation features than in past entries - more options to tweak your farm, home and doll up your dedicated farming folk - a tad bit like Nintendo's own Animal Crossing in some ways. Even visit the nearby salon for styling your hair and buy yourself a new chair.

It's the second entry in the long-running franchise for the 3DS, with Tale of Two Towns spouting up in the US later this month.

Only played Harvest Moon SNES, HM2 on GBC and HM on PSone. I think it's time I get one of the newer games. Smilie

To anyone who's played a recent HM game, have they gotten better since the oldies?

I played Save the Homeland on the PS2, and it was honestly my favorite in the series. I haven't played any HMs since, though. I've been curious about these newer titles, but since they've been on handhelds mostly, I haven't checked them out.

The SNES formula was great, but I enjoyed the modern take in StH much more. I think graphically buffing up to create a really beautiful and engrossing environment helps the experience. And hopefully the graphical updates will allow us to see more facial expressions, too, which would be a big deal for the series, too.

This looks interesting, but I'm worried that the customization additions will get in the way of the storylines, which is more what I play for in HM. If I wanted some straight-up, rigorous gameplay in this style, I would just go back to Animal Crossing.

Like video game music?!

I really loved it too. I love making jams and cooking random stuff in the kitchen. I really missed the fact that our main character could never get married, because I was really in love with Dia. But wasn't she super under aged though? D:
