Japanese Sales, 3rd-9th October, 2011 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The latest Media Create sales for Japan have now been collated, revealing this week's best selling software and hardware for the week of 3rd-9th October, 2011. This week saw a flurry of new releases land at the top of the Media Create Top 50, with Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 on PS3 hitting the No.1 spot (known as Winning Eleven in Japan) with its highest ever first-week sales on the system, just over 270,000 units sold. Close behind is the second PSP edition of dating sim AKB1/48, which focuses on a Japanese girl group of the same name that has 48 pretty young members. The previous release sold nearly half a million copies in total, so it is expected that after the ~240,000 first week sales, it may well have some legs...pretty, shapely, long legs!

Square Enix's 25th Anniversary Dragon Quest retro collection continues to hold well, down to just No.7 with sales nearing 350,000 units now. The game has been selling out regularly since release. Originally the overall run was only meant to be small to make it truly a limited edition, but demand has been higher than expected, so rumours now state it could eventually end around the 600,000-650,000 mark at the end of the day. Another game still trucking along nicely is Minna no Rhythm Tengoku on Wii (Rhythm Heaven in the US and Rhythm Paradise in Europe). With the game now fast approaching the half a million point, Nintendo has confirmed it will be starting up a new advertising campaign to milk the popular music-based game more at the end of the year, alongside other big releases such as Inazuma Eleven Strikers 2012, Kirby's Adventure Wii and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Check out all the sales below, including the hardware side, where the Nintendo 3DS continues to lead the pack after the drastic price cut and announcement of Monster Hunter 3G:

3DS bounced back worldwide. Already over the 360 LTF in Japan and slowly closing in on the PS3. The holidays will do wonders for Nintendo since whatever loss they're absorbing from the price drop will be made back with games and accessories sold during the end of the year. My parents gave my little sister a 3DS in september along with Nintendogs+Cats and a screen protector+stylus set and she bought Ocarina of Time and Pokemon Black to go along with said purchase. Now she's saving for two more games in december and will ask for another two as a gift.
