New details concerning Mario Kart 7's Streetpass and Spotpass connectivity features have been revealed in a new Iwata Asks video, shown during the Nintendo Direct conference earlier today. As expected, you can race online and locally with up to 7 other players, but now Nintendo have added a new Community feature, with will allow you to create your own groups for online friends.
Within the groups you'll be able to customize rules, allowing you to create unique racing environments (for example, maybe getting rid of the blue shell in races). Furthermore they will feature leaderboards, which show the latest information from recent races. They will be easy to set up and can be shared over Streetpass, as well. Furthermore, with Sreetpass enabled, you'll be able to exchange racing scores, win/loss records, number of collected coins and other game data.
Using Spotpass, players will be able to receive ghost data to race against. Up to seven ghosts can be downloaded at the same time, allowing for a full eight-player race. Additionally, a Mario Kart channel will be a central location for players to view information collected through StreetPass and SpotPass.
On top of all this wonderful news, you can also check out the newly updated Japanese website for Mario Kart 7.
