Update Your 3DS on December 8th on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo has confirmed a release date for the previously announced 3DS update - December 8th for 3D video recording!

In time for those 3D movies of your Christmas turkeys and the old folk snoozing to the Queen's Speech, a new firmware update that aims to boldly take your 3DS to where it hasn't been before - 3D video recording.

One of the staple features of the hardware is the ability to snap 3D images using the two cameras on the front, and whilst still pictures come as standard, video recording isn't available out the box. This is set to change with the new software update - capture up to 10 minutes of footage and also create unique stop motion sequences.

Previously penned for November, the firmware will also include system transfer capabilities and new StreetPass games to enjoy.

No messaging service? I'd thought with the release with MK7 Nintendo would have focused bit more on the friends lists, upgrading to what is at the moment.

IIRC, the messaging service is going to be a seperate app that's going to be available on the eShop in December, so the firmware update has nothing to do with it.

Do you have more details on this? I have not heard about any messaging service.

Nintendo is providing a free 3DS messaging app on the eShop this December. It's called Nintendo Letter Box and it will let you send messages to your friends using StreetPass and SpotPass.

As well as being able to write and draw your own messages and choose the design of your writing paper, you can also attach 3D photos and even voice clips you've recorded using the 3DS Sound App.

Here's also a video that shows mostly the drawing function of the app.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

The way the messaging system is looking, it won't be anything like what nintendo had initially advertised, seeing as they said you could use it in game. But if its another app, you'd have to close the other application to use it. All i can say is that i hope they eventually integrate it into the firmware. Preferably sooner than later.
