480 Hours of Juice for 3DS Circle Pad Pro on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The optional bolt-on attachment for 3DS comes with the need for additional juice for power, but just how long would it last?

According to an eager owner of the new Circle Pad Pro, the included instructional leaflet from Nintendo suggests that a single AAA battery would be enough to provide around 480 hours of use - a good few weeks for the average gamer, or twenty days for the non-stop 3DS monster.

The extra control stick adds an additional means of controlling characters and camera on screen, ideal for adventure games, first-person shooters and platformers - but comes at the cost of having to screw the attachment onto the back of the 3DS. The battery slots inside a screwed compartment - meaning you'll have to remove the Circle Pad Pro, unscrew, to replace the battery.

What do you think of the peripheral? Is it needed? Should Nintendo have included a second Circle Pad at the start?

By no means the same sort of blunder, but having to unscrew things to replace a battery echoes having to take apart your n-gage to change the game. As this is Nintendo it sort of amounts to a similar level of stupidity.

If it's cheap enough I might buy one just to make the system more comfy to hold. Playing Mario Kart 7 for long periods makes my hands hurt.

Was thinking the same thing. I wonder if this will make things more comfy. It's definitely needed because the 3DS is unplayable for long periods.

I hope it adds a matte finish to the back; sick of the 3DS sliding out of my hands when I play for five minutes, haha.

Pretty dang good longevity there, the awkward positioning of the battery is hardly an issue if you hardly ever need to change it. Might get one of these for my bear hands. Smilie

I'm probably going to pick up a stand-alone Circle Pad Pro, unless I can somehow convince myself to buy the RE: Revelations bundle (Survival/Horror is not really on my list of preferred genres). A Monster Hunter Tri G bundle would be ace but even if that's going to happen, it won't be for a while.

The 3DS really isn't designed for long play sessions as my hands start to hurt after an hour or two. It's not a big deal after a short break but those rarely happen when I'm playing games. Smilie It didn't look that comfortable to me when I first saw it but once I saw the handles on the back, I was sold. Looks very comfortable, similar to holding a regular controller.

Haha, I totally forgot about the N-Gage. Smilie
