No Plans for an Update to Fix Mario Kart 7 Glitch on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

If you've been playing Mario Kart 7 online, you may have seen a number of players driving off the edge of the track on Wuhu Mountain Loop. This is a glitch that allows you to skip a section of the course and gives players who know about it an advantage. The question is, do Nintendo plan on updating the game to fix it? Apparently not, says a statement the company gave on it.

According to Nintendo of America's Buddy Roemer, updating the game would create an unfair advantage for players with the original release of the game. You can check out the rest of the statement below.

We are aware that it is possible to navigate a certain part of the track in Wuhu Island in a way that allows a large part of the course to be bypassed. There are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut as doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game. Rest assured your comments have been added to our records for Mario Kart 7.

This was reported by StickTwiddlers, who emailed Nintendo of America about the problem. Judging by the response, it would seem Roemer is talking about an updated version of the game at retail and not a downloadable update. According to Nintendo the 3DS does allow for patching, so fingers crossed!

So why don't they made updates essential before people go online?

Perhaps because the courses are saved inside the cartridge, which is a read only piece of memory that can't be overwritten ? How would you update the game for those who already have it if a patch system wasn't planned from the start ?

Their stance is understandable methinks. Without any proper way to force an update for everyone before they go online, this is the best solution. Besides, it makes it that extra bit special IMHO. If it was a game breaking glitch, that'd be a different story but here it's like a shortcut that just wasn't meant to be, but that exists anyway.

I wasn't even aware of it before this news bit. thanks for that Smilie.

A shortcut for 70% of the track, activated by simply driving off course?

Nintendo should make their games so that they can be patched, simple.

That's bollocks. It wasn't an issue for me initially but now you get these idiots who select the course EVERY TIME. Incredibly annoying!

Meh. I attempt the cheat on each time this circuit comes up. If they cheat I come 3rd or 4th so no problemo!

K (guest) 17.01.2012#7

This is rubbish. I hate MK7 online now.

Nintendo is probably the only company out there in this day and age who don't fix their broken games via the use of a patch. They used to make perfect games now quality control has faltered in exchange for quicker, rushed releases because they are hungry for money.

Wait wait wait...does this guy realise what he'd just said. "Taking away the shortcut would give original owners an unfair advantage." Did he actually SAY THAT!?

It doesn't take Phoenix Write to see that the shortcut actually gives original owners the advantage, esspecially if it's difficult to pull off.

I don't see a problem in what he said?

This. Times a million.

Also, I haven't played online yet so I haven't encountered this happening, but if it really does happen so often I'll just join in on the shortcutting fun >.> <.< >.>

You really don't see how TAKING AWAY the glitched out shortcut & KEEPING THE COURSE ORIGINAL without tricyk shortcuts that are hard to pull off actually keeps it fair?
Ok let me explain, you're a new owner of MK7 & just starting out, the game has been out for 6 months & you just now get it since you have $$$ availible. You're racing through Wuhu Island when out of nowhere 80% of the racers veer off the track & their icons are shown zipping away from your location, everybody still with me?

Now given you're a NEW OWNER of the game & haven't been online looking at the FAQS about this game you say to yourself "What the heck how did they do that!!? That's really unfair I didn't know about that!"

My case in point is that this glitch DOES GIVE original owners an unfair advantage, ESSPECIALLY IF IT'S HARD TO PULL OFF!! So again that guy contradics himself since this shortcut (known by original owners longer than new owners) does give an unfair advantage in 2 ways.

1:It's secret knowledge for the most part, meaning NEW COMERS aren't as likely to know it even exists.
1:If it's tricky to pull off the longer you've owned the game...the more PRACTICE YOU'VE HAD TO GET IT RIGHT EVERY TIME!!

If you still don't get what I'm saying go watch the N64 Rainbow Road shortcut video & tell me it gives an unfair advantage to NEW players...

So the dude is saying original owners would gain an unfair advantage.

And you're saying the original owners would gain an unfair advantage.

What am I missing?

No one has said NEW players would gain an unfair advantage. We're all referring to original owners here. Or at least, I am.

GOOD GOD YOU GUYS ARE STUPID!! Except you SirLink.

You guys don't get the CONTEXT of his words so allow me to translate.

"Taking away the shortcut would GIVE original owners an unfair advantage." Remember this is about them NOT wanting to remove the shortcut.

However KEEPING it there does give original owners the unfair advantage, which is the opposite of what this guy said. He means "TAKING IT AWAY would be an unfair ADVANTAGE to original owners"....which it's not.

Try rereading his quote a few times. You guys didn't pick up on what he ment.

You mean SuperLink.

I get what you're saying though. NOA's Buddy is saying to take the shortcut out gives original owners an advantage - but how can there be an advantage when the shortcut is removed? It's actually by not updating the game and leaving it in that it continues to give original owners an advantage.

I admit though, I was slightly confused at first, and had to re-read his statement to see what you were getting at ;p

It's ok no worries, sorry if I sounded a liiiiiittle psycho there. Real life stresses tend to get to me...sorry T_T

His statement actually does make sense, if we're going to assume that he is indeed talking about an updated retail version. That's at least what it sounds like, since that statement wouldn't make any sense if it was about a forced patch that removes the shortcut for everyone. If they start shipping updated copies of the game, naturally original owners would gain an unfair advantage since they still have an unpatched original copy.

All this just because this guy wasn't able to be clear enough with his statement...

^ Good point. When he says "no plans to update the game" you'd think he is talking about a patch, but he could just as well be referring to future copies not having the shortcut, in which case it does make sense. That's probably what the guy himself meant really.

Curse you public relations man.
A small internet forum argument broke out because of you!

Fist shake.
You'll pay dearly for this.
