Capcom Slaughters Resident Evil 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Capcom has successfully cut the legs of Resident Evil: Revelations on Nintendo 3DS this week. Cubed3 recently gave the new 3DS scare-fest 9/10 after it had a sterling first week in the UK, topping the Individual Formats Top 40 last week. However, following a strong start, Capcom starting a marketing blitz for the November release of Resident Evil 6. Whether or not this would have a significant impact on sales of Resident Evil: Revelations was something of debate, but this week's new update from Chart Track has revealed the legs have indeed been chopped off, leaving a bloody mess in the charts.

Check out the damage below:

Of note in the general Nintendo 3DS Top 10, nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever is fourth, followed by a resurgent Sonic Generations, up three to No.5 and an impressive second week in the chart for Tales of the Abyss, up two to No.7. 'Second week' may imply its recent release, but European readers will know that it has in fact been out since November 2011. It actually only made its first Top 10 appearance last week, surprisingly enough. Rounding off the Top 10 is FIFA 12. The full list can be seen below:

What do you think of Capcom's treatment of Resident Evil: Revelations? Should the company have held back its campaign for Resident Evil 6 a bit longer, considering the game is not due until November 2012?

Well if Capcom desides to bitch about the low sales for Revelations they've got NO ROOM to complain since they're poor marketing desisions are the prime reason this game might not end up selling as well as they'd hoped.

It doesn't matter how good a game is, if no one knows it exsists then no one's gonna play it. How else can you explain all the bashing Nintendo & most E rated games get even though they're good...people talk without knowing that's why!!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

They should have announced it as a Wii U Exclusive

I haven't seen it in most Game and Gamestation stores that I've looked in. Don't know whats going on?

...and, rumour has it that Nintendo may be putting any potential ad campaign monies into Kid Icarus instead, if the game doesn't pick up (Nintendo is helping push the game here).

Madness! Smilie

Really...? Well that's a WONDERFUL way to help strengthen third party relations Nintendo!! I hope that rumor is false...I really do.

Why? That would serve Capcom right for screwing it up themselves by advertising Resident Evil 6 this early right when Revelations came out. It certainly doesn't seem as effective for Nintendo to put advertising money into Revelations now that many people who've seen Resident Evil 6 ads are probably thinking "Oh, Revelations huh?...but I saw that a new numbered one is coming out later this year, that one must be much better since it's part of the numbered main series on a home console and not just some handheld spin-off. I think I'll pass on Revelations and wait for that." and stuff like that.

Obviously we know better than that but that's a realistic reaction from a not-so-informed gamer who happened to see a Resident Evil 6 ad on places like the main gaming page on Amazon.

Nintendo shouldn't have to pay for RE:R adverts at all.

Is Sony and Microsoft paying for the RE6 adverts?

That all depends on whatever agreement is made between the companies. Nintendo has a record of supporting both Capcom and Square Enix release in the past. If in the long run it results in more game sales then it pays off.

Interestingly enough, Sven, Capcom's main guy in the US says this is all nonsense and that RE6's adverts have boosted sales of Operation Racoon City and Revelations...and then quickly locked the topic. No idea how the game IS doing in the US, but closing the topic in a rush seems odd. Also, he was asked about this UK-based article specifically, not US sales. I don't put much stock in his response.

Am I the only one that sees this as completely and utterly pathetic? Why advertise a game that isn't out for almost a whole year? Sure, you can make trailers for online media, but on the TV... you should advertise your most recent game. I could understand if RE6 was out in a week or 2, but it isn't. Bad marketing campaign on Capcom's part.

It's almost as bad as announcing a game as exclusive for a dying format...and then before release confirming its actually coming to a competing system that is still selling really well, with added content!

What sort of company would do that??

Oh...wait a second... Smilie

Capcom should of numbered the 3DS resident evil game. I aint sure what the advertising has been like in Japan but here in the UK all I have seen is RE: 6 trailers on tv when they have a brand new 3DS game out. Just dont understand that.

At least I'm not alone in the confusion surrounding Capcom's treatment of Revelations!

***ing Capcom... this is so typical. Watch them muster up the audacity to complain about Revelations' poor sales next. :-x They shouldn't be marketing RE6 YET. Those idiots.
