Super Mario Bros Gets eShop Update on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

3DS ambassadors can now enjoy a slightly improved take on the NES classic Super Mario Bros via an eShop update.

The previously promised updated version, which can now be re-downloaded, includes the ability to save the game easily (without the return to home trick) with a single save state. There's also a full instruction manual to shuffle through, a new menu icon and loading jingle. Nifty!

To download the updated Super Mario Bros for Virtual Console, simply go into your previously download titles on the 3DS eShop. If you're not an ambassador, unfortunately it'll be some time before you'll be able to take on these NES goodies on the move.

Have you downloaded Super Mario Bros for the 3DS eShop yet? What's your take on having save states added for classic NES games?

Woot, can't wait for the others to get the same treatment. Also to allow save states/suspension for GBA titles when you close the system or go to the main menu.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Actually, I think its all the NES games - I had a update option for all of them when I looked.
Not seeing the scanned manuals though, just the
save states added :-/

*edit* seems a mistake in my region/timing. The others didnt update despite the fact a update was listed and they greyed out for awhile.(I had all 10 set to update when closed)

For some reason the ambassador certificate itself had a update too. (what does that do?)

Also; random 3ds thing

"Nikki" the character that guides you in the letters page sneaks into you Mii Plaza list!

Yeah, it's all the NES games, I didn't notice until I looked, but Pokedex 3D has an update as well.

I only had updates for Super Mario Bros. and Balloon Fight. The one for Balloon Fight didn't do anything though.

I've not received Nikki in my Mii Plaza either.

The other games were indeed updated, this was just to add compatibility with certain SD cards that were having problems with those games, it was talked about on GBATemp, I believe. I saw it on NintendoLife though.

I think the update for the ambassador certificate was just to enable you to recieve notifications when the other games have been/are going to be updated. Or it could just be a compatibility update as well.

Update all your games and apps, just to be sure though. I've done it all, and I'll regularly check my downloads for any more updates. Hopefully Nintendo will fix the "Available Updates" section soon, it's not worth it being there if they don't.

Also, I noticed that Nikki appeared in my Mii plaza today, haha. Smilie

EDIT: @Stulaw and Marzy, the updates for Pokédex 3D and Balloon Fight were just compatibility updates as well. Well, I know Balloon Fight was for sure. I'm pretty certain that the 'dex 3D update was just for compatibility issues too. Smilie
