Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Coming to Nintendo 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Rumors surrounding a sequel to Sumo Digital's Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing have floated around for a while, and today SEGA finally revealed that those rumors were true.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed sees the return of Sonic and classic SEGA characters racing across a variety of aptly themed courses. This time though, the gameplay aspects will be different, with vehicles now having the ability to transform into cars, boats or planes. Transforming is likely to be essential, because courses will now be able to morph during a race, meaning some areas may require you to transform into another vehicle.

Furthermore, SEGA say that the game will have an improved weapon system that allows you to evade or block incoming attacks, as well as enhanced online multiplayer modes. New characters revealed so far, include Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia - there's also a new Panzer Dragoon course.

There's no word on whether the game will be coming to Nintendo's next-gen console, the Wii U, but it will be heading to the Nintendo 3DS.

Probably the final nail in the coffin for Sonic, he's finished.

Can't see Sonic dying any time soon.

Diddy Kong Racing came straight into my head when I saw the car transform. Could turn into a decent game. Potential for a bunch more characters, too. Kiryu Kazuma from Yakuza to go alongside Ryo Hazuki, anyone? Actually, that's more of a match up best suited to Project X Zone! Would be awesome!

I haven't been online all day and then saw this headline and thought for a second that this was announcing Sonic's inclusion in Playstation all-Stars... my bad. Smilie

Whenever I hear people insulting All-Stars Racing I cringe.

First game was received very well considering the genre is dominated by Mario Kart, from all the playtests of this I've read so far it's actually a huge improvement already and comes into its own.

All-Stars Racing as a game isn't to be lumped in with all those other shitty Sonic spinoffs.

The DS version was decent, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the 3DS game turns out. Assuming this'll be a Wii U launch title as well (hence why the platform hasn't been mentioned).

It's a good racing game ok! As in a video game that is enjoyable to play and got good reviews because it is fun and a video game that people play for enjoyability (that is usually why people play video games).

Also saying you won't play a SEGA crossover racing game because Sonic shouldn't drive a car is like saying you won't play Smash Bros because Captain Falcon or Mr Game & Watch shouldn't be fighting

Logic????????????????????(???)???????????? (or like who cares it's a game)

Just enjoy good video games people eesh it's much easier to enjoy good things than it is to dislike them for completely superficial reasons.

Fyi this game has been in development since long before Mario Kart 7 was unveiled according to interviews. The inclusion of sky and water elements is a complete coincidence that shocked even the developers.

Ignores the rest of that comment.

What SuperLink said.

I never really liked the 1st allstars racing, something about the mechanics of the game puts me off. Although I don't really see anything wrong with the game other then that and it does pretty good in sales so a sequel was bound to happen.

It looks like a rehash of the old engine, but I concur with Azuardo - gotta give it a chance. They're obviously aiming for a Diddy Kong Racing type thing, and you never know, could be decent. And either way, I'd take an average racer over any of the fumbled platform games of the last decade. Smilie

I suspect something cool is happening with the WiiU version.

According to rumours Sumo pushed to get Kirby playable in Nintendo versions (and failed)
I really hope Nintendo allow one of their characters.

I think at most they will probably let them use Mii's.

Yeah I'd say they're a shoe-in.. I'm not a huge fan of Miis though.
Give me any other Nintendo character and I'd be a little more impressed.

Heck I'd even take Waluigi (don't do that though plz)

Link obviously needs to be in the Wii U version then Smilie
