Wii U Tablet to use Analogue Sticks? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Will the Wii U tablet controller don traditional analogue sticks? A leaked image seems to suggest this. Make it so, Nintendo?

A photo of a revised Wii U controller that today did the rounds on Twitter, but was shortly removed, reveals a handful of tidbits about Nintendo's latest concoction. Instead of 3DS-styled slider pads, this new format appears to have conventional, raised analogue sticks, a slim LED around the home buttons, a slightly wider base and a mysterious square panel on the left side.

A improvement - hopefully they also will put analoge triggers too, so its at least as good as a wavebird.

Incident, call me slow, but I only just realized the bar at the top is a sensor bar for wiimotes.

Looks legit.

This seems like a better move than the circle slider pads. Those are handy when portability is a priority, but that's not an issue for home consoles.

Does anyone know what the ports at the bottom or the white block at the top (with a cord) are?

Also, it's kind of strange that the analog sticks aren't surrounded by an octagon design (every other Nintendo analog stick has this).

Joystiq has a really hi-res version of the picture HERE.

Never had any problem with the Circle Pad design but this does look better. Definitely curious to see what those two small squares on the left and bottom of the pad are for.

If the battery light is the indicator for when the Upad is turned on, I'm guessing the LED around the home button serves the same primary purpose as the 360 Pad, which would indicate 2 or more Upad support. Smilie

The square panel has to be for thought control. Vitality Sensor +.

Good inset, they should use the GC sticks

I'm glad the d-pad looks normal size now, too. I hope to god those ABXY buttons aren't clicky. Pet peeve of mine ever since they introduced them with GBA SP.

Same for me.

I don't mind a clicky d-pad, but clicky buttons is just wrong. It feels like playing a game on a mobile phone.

The design layout is a big improvement, Nintendo need to do everything to make sure this tablet is perfect for anyone who uses it.

Is that not the camera?

Is that not the camera?

The camera's in the middle, and I'm guessing there's IR sensors either side of it.

Also thought that was strange my self, maybe pressure from third parties asking them to ditch it?

I personally think there will be 3 IR lights. That way the Wiimote can tell the difference between the normal sensor bar and the Upad. Smilie

I'm gonna really miss the octagon shaped Analogue :'l

Me too. How else could you balance your monkey across the thinnest of wires in Super Monkey Ball?
Octagon ftw!

Octagon ftw!

Yes exactly! I've never had problems with full analogue even with the octagon around, it just helps precision to be that much easier, it's always something I've praised the Nintendo analogues over the opposition for, small though it may seem..

This is much MUCH better especially for fighters. Nothing made me mad more than loosing a match in DOAD because I couldn't quite get the angle right for high & low counter grabs...this should make DOA5 much easier to play, thanks Nintendo. Smilie

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

I know i might get shit for this since these changes are obivously down to user feedback, but i liked how it was before. The design was cleaner and honestly, i like the slide pads. I don't hate the new changes, but i rather the previous design we've been introduced to. It bothers me alot how Nintendo move around their buttons, like when i first got the 3ds, many times while playing pokemon, i pressed the power button thinking it was start as it's in the same position as the start button on the DSiXL, so now im used to the 3ds/wiimote style layouts, their going back to the DSi layout on this? annoying!

Actually wolfy, I sort of prefer the way the Circle pads looked, and combined with the fact that a lot of users act last year's E3 said they were comfortable and far superior to the 3DS' makes me think that the only reason for analogues is clickability.

I kind of doubt that the circle pads not being clickable was the only complaint, because if that was the case it doesn't seem like it would have been that difficult to just make the circle pads clickable. I'm sure there is some way they could have made that happen.

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

Princess Bride is a great movie, Smilie!

On topic: I can see Nintendo not have clickable sticks again. None of their consols have ever had them... And with a huge touch screen next to your thumbs, you have to wonder if you really need those 2 extra 'buttons'.
