E3 2012 Media | First Glimpse at New Super Mario Bros Wii U? Screens and Video on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Iwata, you tease! During Nintendo's pre-E3 show today, a small snippet demonstrating Miiverse reveals a possible new Mario game.

Whilst Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata was talking Wii U's online communication, he popped on a teeny snippet of what appears to be a new Super Mario Bros game in action, together with handful of comments from the player's friends flashing up on screen.

Eagled eyed Cubed3 members spotted a few nifty clues on what the next Mario game could entail - if this concept does become reality - including word of a possible appearance of Baby Yoshi, the ability to become a form of flying squirrel and an ickle clue of what appears to be a form of achivements system.

The concept may also suggest that players could view friends play sessions over the Wii U - following the action in real time, perhaps.

Of course, it may simply be a concept to illustrate how it all works using a familiar Nintendo title, with something a bit more concrete being revealed during the Nintendo E3 Conference this Tuesday.

What do you think of the concept and look for this potential Super Mario Bros game?

FIRST!!!! Ok but in all seriousness this looks promising. Glad to hear they've implemented some sort of achievement system for us completionists, sure hope third parties are incited more to support Nintendo now!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Looks like Reggie has been upstaged this year! Smilie
Non-specific action figure kind or reminds me of Captain Rainbow...

It looks like New Super Mario World WiiU, and I don't like it.

Super Mario World is by far the best mario (2D) game. If they can capture the level of depth (in exploration) this will be a better game then the current 2d affairs. I like the background art in the level a lot. I still wish they would flatten it completely.

I know what SMW is. This looks like a cheap cut and paste product, using NSMB assets. SMW graphic style looks far better. The map screen looks like a social game, it has little of the SMW's style and charm.

A bit better artwise but still without a new feature its ¨meh¨ to me.

Heres a random idea:

How about a mario game with really good enemy AI? They actualy chase, follow, hide, dodge etc. Giving the classic enemys a inteligence boast could make a really exciting 2D game.
Fear the gomba!

I reckon that Nintendo may just release this as a pack-in game with the Wii U.

Pack in, really? Yep - with levels released as DLC or based on achievements, really cement the online space for it and guarantee the sales with Mario.

I have to say, this Mario game coming with the console would certainly make a lot of sense. It's low on development costs compared to other titles, so they could easily afford throwing it in there as it would boost sales more than having it available as a stand-alone retail/downloadable game. Nintendo explicitly saying that they wouldn't be showing any games on the Nintendo Direct, yet we've seen footage from this, would support this theory too.

People have been demanding a Mario game at launch since ages and what's better than it coming with the console itself? I can totally see this happening.

Iwata said during the Nintendo direct that ""With Miiverse ... Miis have access to a wide menu of rich content, including the ability to post screenshots from their own gameplay, and even transmit game content they have created themselves, which can then be added to others' gameplay."

Notice the "and even transmit game content they have created themselves, which can then be added to others' gameplay".

Right after these words were spoken it cut to footage of NSMB. A possible hint at the ability to create and share your own NSMB levels, similar to Little big planet?

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

I like how you read into that. If this does happen, a lot of my wishes for the next Mario game would have come true if the other predicted stuff happens, also. We shall see.

It has me hoping! Though I can't take credit for this, as it was mentioned on IGN. I just found it intriguing. Smilie
