E3 2012 | Rumor: Nintendo Launching Wii U at £250? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Rumour: Despite stating that Wii U pricing won't be made official at E3, Japanese paper Nikkei has given an expected price.

This E3 for Nintendo is all about the controller and games, and the company has previously stated that we'll have to wait until nearer launch for a piggy bank target. Reports in the latest edition of the paper have suggested that Nintendo will ship the Wii U for a rather high 30,000 Yen.

This value translates to roughly £250, $380 or €305.

The paper didn't state whether it's a guess or a nugget of information from an inside source, however.

Related Wii U news also suggests distribution of apps like a car navigator, eBooks and a comprehensive karaoke service with around 10,000 songs - which itself would make a killing in home territory.

Whatever the RRP for the Wii U, it's unlikely that Nintendo would reveal this during E3.

To be fair, £250 is a respectable price. If I could get a bundle with a quality launch game for £250, say Metroid, I'd be content with that.

Hmm - I'm predicting £300 with pack in Game Pad,� mote/chuck, Wii U Pro, Mario Wii U and Wii U Sports.

I'm predicting 2 packages. A pro pack with classic controller pro, wiimote and gamepad for �£300 and A basic pack with just gamepad for �£250

That really doesn't sound bad at all. The Wii launched in Japan with a price of 25,000 yen, which translated to $249.99 in the states (the prices are almost never a direct correlation of each other). So the Wii U launching in Japan at 30,000 yen, which is not that much of an increase from the wii launch, with the value of the U.S. dollar now, I would guess about $300-$350 dollars at launch here in the states.

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

Nintendo issued a statement concerning the rumored launch price saying it contains a number of mistakes and is entirely speculation of Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
