Reggie Clarifies Wii U Miiverse Moderation on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Moderation in Nintendo games and software has been a tricky topic, but Reggie Fils-Aime recently quelled reports that the upcoming Miiverse system could suffer delays in posting of up to 30 minutes.

One of the major reveals from last week's E3 show was that Nintendo are finally bringing a ground-up, unified communication system to the Wii U called Mii Universe, of Miiverse for short. But rumblings from company president Satoru Iwata highlighted that there will be content filtering in place that could result in your posts undergoing a series of checks before going public.

Of course with potential crude images, spammers and trolls, Nintendo's system could and will likely fall prey to abuse, but plans for moderation were left with some questions - would harmless posts about how to solve a game be thwarted by delays?

The short answer is, if you keep it clean, there should be no problems - says Reggie, the big boss behind Nintendo of America.

Speaking to Kotaku, Fils-Aime clarified a few points made by Iwata, in that Nintendo's human-lead team will step in if content is continually flagged as inappropriate and continues to try to push these sorts of comments.

But what if, as in the example given by Nintendo when debuting the MiiVerse, I want to post a request for help for a game I'm stuck on? Do I have to wait a while for that to run?

Let's take that example. I need help with level so-and-so. The technical scan happens. There's no bad words. It happens.

No queue?
Correct.

It was my interpretation from the original article that the human-filtering would really just be for public picture messages (or publically flagged content) so this clarification isn't a surprise.

Man. How many people are going to be doing these technical scans? I can imagine there will be thousands of messages a minute.

Zero (for regular text messsages anyway).

If Nintendo needs someone for scanning through them, let them know I'm available Smilie. I don't mind long boring jobs, actually I'm more comfortable with them, and working for Nintendo would be awesome Smilie.

Count me in too! Would most likely be hilarious, especially if people can draw messages as well.

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

Same as Sonic_13, I thought it was clear that the human-based filtering would only be for drawings, not text. I'm surprised that everyone blew it out of proportion. Well, not really surprised, given the nature of gamers.

They will get a bunch of Indians in a re-decorated call centre to do it. None of them will speak proper English and colloquialisms and slang will make it through the net....just increasing the overheads if you ask me!
