Pokémon Black & White Sequel, 3DS App Due October on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

It's time to get your Pokémon groove on this October as Nintendo has confirmed a European and North American date for Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2.

Both titles, the first direct sequels in the long-running RPG series, have already taken Japan by storm - selling a huge amount in its first two days on retail - 1,561,738 units according to Media Create figures, and now it's due to set sail to the West in time for the Holiday season.

Nintendo today confirmed that both games will retail in the US on October 7th, with a UK and Europe date set for October 12th.

The eShop companion, Pokemon Dream Radar will also be available on launch, letting players use the 3DS augmented-reality features to nab Pokémon in reality, and transfer them to the game - much like a contemporary Pokémon Snap.

Pokédex 3D Pro - also out this fall - will let players explore every known species out there, from your Charmander and Squirtle, to the more recent Landorus.

Hmmm... yeah, pass.

Before I say anything, let me provide a disclaimer:

I am 22 years old, and I grew up on the first generation Pokemon games. I have an extremely strong attachment to them, and I still play them on my same GameBoy color very often. I play in a band that performs videogame music and we play an 18 minute Pokemon medley of just music from the first two Pokemon generations.

Now that I've proved my love for Gen 1 (and 2), I have to say that Black/White are, in terms of gameplay, the best Pokemon games to be released by a huge margin. Obviously technological limitations are a factor, but we have been given a significantly larger amount of content in a game. Say what you will about the newer monster designs, there is a CRAP ton more to do in B/W than any other PKMN game and you know it.

I am personally extremely satisfied with the slight increase in difficulty, and all of the fun things there are for me to do post-game. I was SO tired of beating the Elite 4 and being sad there was nothing else to do. I am still playing my White version, building my team, completing my dex, and finding new events that I didn't know about. The inspiration to explore the world has never been this strong, and I have never felt that the game world was so alive.

Lastly, the addition of deeper story elements is a complete plus for me. I am a very big fan of the Pokemon Adventures manga, and being that B/W 2 are continuing the story of B/W, I find it very promising and exciting as someone who plays games primarily for storyline.

Now if they could just get Junichi Masuda to write a few tunes again!

Like video game music?!
