As of June 2012, NPD figures report over 5 million 3DS consoles have been sold in the US alone, and this is poised to grow even bigger with the impending release of New Super Mario Bros. 2 and the revised XL model.

- Nintendo held a 75% market share for all portable video game hardware in the US.
- Over 400,000 consoles were sold in June - spread over 155,000 3DS, 150,000 DS and 95,000 Wii consoles.
